I'm curious how each of you arrived at your unusual user names. There are some interesting ones out there that I bet have a story behind them.

Miss George is the name of my female calico cat. She is 4 years old, weighs approx. 5 lbs., likes to look at herself in the mirror, and is the boss of the house. My husband, our other 4 cats and I give her whatever she wants.

Big Bird on Sesame Street has been my idol for many years. He is open, wise, loving, accepting, and all sorts of other character traits that I frequently could use more of. One of my life ambitions is to hug Big Bird - the real one, not the ones at theme parks! If anyone ever finds a grown up watch with Big Bird - like a Mickey Mouse watch - please let me know! Alice

When I was a small child, 'bout a hundred years ago,I could'nt pronounce some words correctly, and my uncle took one such word, "oogie" ,as a nickname for me. Only use it these days as web ID, and in the motorcycle club, where some have trouble remembering it and call me "booger" instead.

A.(Arthur) S.(Squiddley) Dibbens is a character I created in one of my college short story classes. He was kind of my alter-ego and I thought about writing under that name since I have a rather common name. I didn't, but when I first signed up for AOL 15 years ago, instead of being JimP50000001, his name popped back into my head.

Bushyfox sent me this email today that has more info in it about player names. I could have read through the thousands of posts but who has the time?

Dear Eesusbejesus: I made a similar post, asking about Sploofus usernames when I first became a Gold's the answers!

10/8 2:35 AM EST

for a while now I have been curious about how some folks arrived at their usernames, some are quite fascinating! I got mine from having a bushy mop of red hair and a last name of "Fox"..hence "Bushyfox". I'd like to hear how you arrived at yours?

10/8 3:15 AM EST
We just had a post on this topic not too long ago. I, too, always find it interesting. It's great that you started this again, so we can hear some old ones and get some new ones, too.

I'm a huge fan of Anne Rice and mythology. I've heard many times the myth of Pandora's box, and when I created this name, which I use for many other online things, I had just finished reading Anne Rice's book, Pandora. 80 is just my birth year, which I had to add when I used this name the first time (I think for email), because apparently I wasn't the first to think of it.

TTFN, Diane
10/8 3:57 AM EST
Go take Tuzilla's quizzes on the lyrics of Alice's Restaurant. You'll know where my name comes from.

10/8 4:06 AM EST
Mine comes from my all time favorite novel, Journey to the West (also known as Monkey). It's from China. The central character is Monkey and one of the book's themes is to "tame the monkey mind." Great fun, actually. Lots of adventures, slapstick comedy and philosophy, all jumbled together in one great tale.

10/8 7:04 AM EST
Im an avid fan of the band Metallica. Min eis named after one of their Cds "Master of Puppets" and my old apartment number. This has been my user name for everything for 10 years now.

10/8 12:07 PM EST
Hi name is jack, but mom and grandma called me jackson, while growing up. My siblings opted for action jackson, and later shortened it to action. The 23........well since action is typically too short for most "user names" carrying only 6 characters, I borrowed from the phrase "lights, camera, action"........where they director says "all right, we're ready in 1, 2, 3, action". I just dropped the 1. Fun Welcome to the GOLD club

10/8 1:35 PM EST
I produced and directed a theatre company called the Genius Waitress Society. We took our name from a Tom Robbins novel in which genius waitresses paid steep dues and picked one of their own to have a research project funded once a year. In my opinion, any hard-working wage-slaver with half a brain is a genius waitress.

10/8 2:09 PM EST

I got lulise because my middle name is louise but my little sis couldn't say it right, she said lulise, so it stuck.

10/9 12:51 AM EST
Mine is my nickname and came from the movie Crocodile Dundee. My friends said I was always walkabout like him because I spent most of my time hitch-hiking back and forth across the country for no apparent reason other than just because I could, and could get myself out of any type of trouble I found myself in free and unscathed (especially with the police). The DD is my initials. It began as CrocodileDD then later shortened to CrocDD by my son before he could say the word crocodile.

10/9 2:27 AM EST
Fascinating stuff folks......thank you! Probably the only'un I had guessed in advance was Tnlefty..all the rest were pure mystery or wild speculation. Don't stop now though, would love to read some more! ~Bev

10/9 3:10 AM EST
Aqua, meaning water and I added mar because put together sounds like a good name for a horse and I love horses.

10/9 1:22 PM EST

10/10 9:46 PM EST

Akale is Hawaiian for Ashlee, my name. I'm not Hawaiian, so I'm not sure how I picked it. I've had it for years. Sometimes on other sites, my user name is akaleluika which is Ashlee Louise.

Wow, well thank you ever so much. I was a cosmetologist back in the day, so since I wear a uniform everyday now, I can only be woman from the neck up most days. My hair and makeup puts a twist on the camoflauge. I appreciate the compliment!!

I can't remember how I found it. I've tried to find the site again since and I haven't been able. I'll let you know if I find it again.

I run an unofficial sitte for him

I just fancied a change when I signed up here for the last goodness knows how long I have been Moonstar on every site I sign up on. Even my sons call me Mamma Moon or Moon Mum.

Monstar came from a friend in a pub one day who said 'you have outgrown your old CB handle Night Owl you are more of a Moon Star now'

Crayon, yeah right. Admit it Violet, that's your stage name when you moonlight as an exotic dancer.

Now Jedley, I was taught that you are suppposed to take your childhood pet's name and the street that you lived on to get your 'exotic dancer' (but we said 'porn star') pseudonym...

That would make me Coco Robindale!

Jedley  (Level: 34.2 - Posts: 278)

Buck is obviously the better stripper choice!

Dang my next novel already has it's cast of characters - these names are fabulous! And though Maurlin's stripper name doesn't really work, you gotta love a family that names a pet after a Polish monk and geneticist. Was the pet a dog or a pea plant, Maurlin?

Chi-Chi Plainview is a hoot-and-a-half!

Pafork  (Level: 132.0 - Posts: 537)
Sun, 12th Feb '06 10:56 PM

I don't know if it'd work for a porn star, but Sniffy Brown Bridge is a fantastic name.
Mine would be Sinbad Goya, which would probably work better for one of my brothers.

'Pafork' is one of dozens of nonsensical mutating nicknames my sister (Pafick) and I have given each other. The first couple names I tried when I first found the site were taken, so I impatiently just used one I knew would be free. If I'd known how addicting the site would be I'd've chosen something prettier. =) Hm...I always liked the sound of 'burnt sienna'.

Lulise  (Level: 32.2 - Posts: 248)

What the heck were you thinking naming your pet Grandpa?? Obviously you had no idea how important the naming of a pet would be later in life...I guess we all need to figure out what our children will be calling themselves when they get their first job at strip-o-gram!

Grandpa South Central... too too funny

Winkie 192nd St? I don't think so. Maybe I could pretend I lived somewhere else. Or maybe I just can't be a stripper. Oh dear.

I always thought it was your middle name and the name of the street you were born on.
That way I'm Alison Frankford, but the pet-name way I'm Banjo Stanwood.
Neither are desirable stripper names.

Suzer22  (Level: 165.6 - Posts: 1982)
Wed, 15th Feb '06 10:12 PM

Oh come on, Banjo Stanwood is great!

Amongst my friends we agreed the pet name/street name was for the stripper/porn star, but if you wanted a serious pseudonym you should use your middle name and your mother's maiden-name.

Akale  (Level: 19.2 - Posts: 27)
Thu, 16th Feb '06 6:30 PM

Well it so happens that my middle name and my mother's maiden name would make me Louise Flinchum which IS my grandmother's name.

My stripper name is Pippi Franklin.

I saw an old episode of Regis with Jay Mohr as guest host & he & Kelly were choosing their stripper names by 1st pet name + mother's maiden name...

Dimey Bedwell

or the middle name + maiden = Michele Bedwell
