Two, count'em two numbers at once.

The extreme weather events of 535-536 were one of the most severe and protracted short-term episodes of cooling in the Northern Hemisphere in the last 2,000 years. The event is thought to have been caused by an extensive atmospheric dust veil, most likely resulting from a large volcanic eruption in the tropics.[1] Its effects were widespread, causing unseasonal weather, crop failures and famines worldwide. It is believed to be from an eruption of Krakatoa on Java.

The first USS The Sullivans (DD-537) is a Fletcher-class destroyer. The ship is named in honor of the five Sullivan brothers (George, Francis, Joseph, Madison, and Albert) aged 19 to 27 who lost their lives when their ship, USS Juneau, was sunk by a Japanese submarine during the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on November 13, 1942. This was the greatest military sacrifice by any one American family during World War II.

Highway 546 runs north out of Iron Bridge, Ontario. When my dad took us up it the first time in 1955, it was a gravel road that turned into a 2-track logging trail. It is now paved at the lowest end of paved. It ends in the parking lot of Frontier Lodge on McElrea Lake. It was originally only rustic, log cabins....but the fishing was amazing. They have modernized over the years. We went fishing there every summer into the 70s. I have been up there a few times, since.

United Airlines Flight 553 crashed at Chicago Midway International Airport on December 8, 1972.A total of 45 people were killed in the accident, 43 of them on the plane.

Among the passengers killed was Watergate conspirator E. Howard Hunt's wife, Dorothy Hunt. Mrs. Hunt's purse contained $10,585 in cash and she had purchased flight insurance for $250,000 prior to boarding the flight.

Conspiracy theorists believed the plane was targeted by government agencies. Nixon administration figure Chuck Colson told TIME magazine that "I don't say this to my people. They'd think I'm nuts. I think the CIA killed Dorothy Hunt."

The USS Robinson, DD562, came late to WW2. Commissioned on 31 January 1944, she, like her sister fighting ships, was designed, built and intended to ‘sail in harm’s way’ and, while there, exude a bit of harm in return. And so she did, from the moment of her first enemy submarine contact on 14 June 1944 until the Japanese surrendered on the deck of the USS Missouri on 2 September 1945. In tough campaigns from Saipan to Guam to Tinian to Peleliu to Leyte to Tarakan to Mindoro to Lingayen to Zamboanga and Mindinao, she dished out plenty of harm to the enemy, yet suffered no serious hits or casualties of her own. And she was the only destroyer in her original squadron of eight able to make that claim.

More ship history. This is nifty, guys.

The first USS Ross was laid down 7 September 1942 by the Seattle-Tacoma Shipbuilding Corp., Seattle, WA, launched 10 September 1943, sponsored by Mrs. William J. Malone and commissioned 21 February 1944, Comdr. Benjamin Coe in command.
On 12 October, Ross departed the Admiralties. Five days later she arrived off Dinagat Island. On the morning of the 18th, she covered landings there, on Black Beach 2, then joined TU 77.2.6 to provide cover for that minesweeping and hydrography unit. Her duty, however, ended abruptly less than 15 hours later.
At 0133 on the 19th, she struck a mine to port under the forward engine room and fireroom, and began to list to port. At 0155 she struck a second mine in the vicinity of the after engine room. As the list increased to 14° Chickasaw (ATF 83) and Preserver (ARS 8) closed to render assistance.
Soon after 0210, Ross jettisoned six torpedoes, all port depth charges, and miscellaneous gear. Topside movable weights were shifted to starboard. The list began to decrease. At 0315, her medical officer, the seriously injured, and the ship's funds were transferred to Chickasaw. At 0343, she was taken in tow by the ATF and four hours later anchored off Montoconan Island.

575-Hooray for coffee!

"Used traditionally by nomadic mountain warriors of the Galla tribe in Ethiopia, coffee was first eaten as a food sometime between A.D. 575 and 850, long before it was made into a hot beverage between A.D. 1000 and 1300. One well-known legend has it that coffee was discovered by an Ethiopian goatherd named Kaldi who noticed his goats were considerably energized after eating red berries from a nearby bush. Kaldi tried some berries himself and was elated by his surge of energy."

American Airlines Flight 587 crashed into Queens; a borough of New York City shortly after takeoff from John F. Kennedy International Airport on November 12, 2001 killing 265 people.

The accident occurred two months almost to the day after the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center in Manhattan. This caused many people to fear that the crash was caused by another terrorist attack but was ruled out as the cause almost immediately.

One of the passengers killed on the flight was Hilda Yolanda Mayol. Two months earlier, on September 11, Mayol worked at a restaurant on the ground floor of the World Trade Center and escaped before the building collapsed.

591- A Mesoamerican ballgame court is dedicated at the Mayan city of Chinkultic.

The rules of the ballgame are not known, but judging from its descendant, ulama, they were probably similar to racquetball or volleyball.

The game could be brutal and there were often serious injuries inflicted by the solid, heavy ball. Today's hip-ulama players are "perpetually bruised"

Reports that players were killed after the ball struck them in a vulnerable spot.

Ouch!

The University of Michigan proposed putting 592 accessible seats in the football stadium.
Because wheelchair-accessible seats take up about 12 times as much space as normal seats, the changes will also drop the stadium's seat capacity from 107,501 to an estimated 106,201 for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. That will make Michigan Stadium the second-largest football stadium in the country after Penn State University's Beaver Stadium, which holds 107,282.
University officials said they don't know what the stadium's capacity will be after the expansion project and said they don't know whether it will again become the biggest.

Of the 643 people on the HMS Birkenhead only 193 survived when she sank.

On 26 February 1852, while transporting troops she was wrecked near Cape Town, South Africa. There were not enough serviceable lifeboats on board for all the passengers - however the soldiers famously stood firm, thereby allowing the women and children to board the boats safely.

The soldiers' chivalry gave rise to the "women and children first" protocol during the procedure of abandoning ship, while the "Birkenhead Drill" came to describe courage in face of hopeless circumstances.

Joe McCarthy career winning percentage for postseason .698 is the highest in major league history. He was best know for managing "Bronx Bombers" teams of the New York Yankees from 1931 to 1946.

McCarthy's "10 Commandments for Success in the Majors":

1. Nobody ever became a ballplayer by walking after a ball.
2. You will never become a .300 hitter unless you take the bat off your shoulder.
3. An outfield who throws in back of a runner is locking the barn after the horse is stolen.
4. Keep your head up and you may not have to keep it down.
5. When you start to slide, SLIDE. He who changes his mind may have to change a good leg for a bad one.
6. Do not alibi on bad hops. anyone can field the good ones.
7. Always run them out. You never can tell.
8. Do not quit.
9. Try not to find too much fault with the umpires. You cannot expect them to be as perfect as you are.
10. A pitcher who hasn't control hasn't anything.

The illuminati are desperately sending messages or worse...homing beacon symbols to draw negative, qlipothic and evils entities and energies into our sphere of existence. They do this by a form of ley or dragon line driven numerology, architecture and timing that is typically called magic or magick but in fact is a form of technology linked to a predecessor civilization that is being rediscovered by occult groups and government leaders to rule the world. One of these hidden architectural monstrosities has been discovered in Louisville, Kentucky. It is slated to be completed in 2010. It is 703 feet tall. The significance of this number will be exposed as well as the style of the skyscraper which resembles Stanley Kubrick's black Monolith from 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Unit 731 was a covert biological and chemical warfare research and development unit of the Imperial Japanese Army that undertook lethal human experimentation during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945) and World War II. It was responsible for some of the most notorious war crimes carried out by Japanese personnel. Officially known by the Imperial Japanese Army as the Kempeitai Political Department and Epidemic Prevention Research Laboratory, it was initially set up under the Kempeitai military police of the Empire of Japan to develop weapons of mass destruction for potential use against Chinese, and possibly Soviet forces.

Unit 731 was based in the Pingfang district of the city of Harbin in the puppet state of Manchukuo. More than ten thousand people, from which around 600 every year were provided by the kempeitai, were subjects of the experimentation conducted by Unit 731. These were both civilian and military of Chinese, Korean, Mongolian, and Russian origin. Some American and European Allied prisoners of war also died at the hands of Unit 731. In addition, the use of biological weapons researched in Unit 731's bioweapons and chemical weapons programs resulted in tens of thousands of military and civilian deaths in China – possibly as many as 200,000 casualties by some estimates.

Equally amazing is the fact the U.S. government covered up and hid this situation from public knowledge after the war for a great many years.

My model III had dual floppy drives and a Z80 processor. Of course you could only save on one side of the 5 1/14 in. floppy. Each disk held 360 KB of information. I would have needed about 2,800 disks to hold 1 GB of data.

1950 Tigers outscored their opponents 837 to 713, had the second best team ERA in the American League but still came in second to the Yankees.

On September 24, 1950, with the Tigers in the middle of a tight pennant race with the Yankees. Heavy smoke from a Canadian forest fire forced the Tigers to turn on the lights for a Sunday afternoon game against the Indians. With the game tied 1-1, Cleveland pitcher Bob Lemon opened the 10th inning with a triple, and two intentional walks followed. With the bases loaded and one out, the Tiger catcher Aaron Robinson thought he could force out Lemon by stepping on the plate without tagging him. Because of the haze, he did not see first baseman Don Kolloway remove the force after fielding the ball. Robinson's mental lapse cost Detroit the game, and he was blamed for squelching the Tigers' pennant hopes.

In proportional terms of losses to strength the battle was the worst defeat that United States forces have ever suffered in battle. Only 48 men escaped unharmed. The resulting investigation was the first that Congress had ever undertaken. President Washington and his advisers refused to hand over any papers or materials that they thought required them to keep secret for the public good. This established the concept of excutive priviledge.

The Smith & Wesson Model 910 is a full-sized, short recoil operated, semi-automatic pistol that was introduced by the Smith & Wesson company in 1995.

The 910 was originally subject to the Federal Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, which limited the magazine capacities of all newly manufactured handguns to 10 rounds or less, hence the model number (9 for 9mm, and 10 for 10-round capacity), though it was designed to accommodate 15-round magazines. Law enforcement agencies purchasing the pistol could obtain full-capacity magazines instead of ten-round ones.

Don Wert had 929 hits in nine MLB seasons. On June 26, 1968, Wert was beaned in the 6th inning by the Cleveland pitcher. The pitch hit Wert in the head, shattering his batting helmet. Wert was carried off on a stretcher, spent two nights in the hospital, missed several games, and was never the same hitter again. He had never hit lower than .257 in five prior seasons, but his batting average dropped to a career-low .200 in 1968, as he managed only 107 hits in 536 at bats.

Glenn's reply came to be known as the "Gold Star Mothers" speech. He told Metzenbaum to go to a veterans' hospital and "look those men with mangled bodies in the eyes and tell them they didn't hold a job. Supreme Court Docket # 000 949 Bush vs. Gore held that the Florida Supreme Court's method for recounting ballots was unconstitutional, and by a vote of 5-4, held that no alternative method could be established within the time limits set by the State of Florida..

The decision allowed Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris's previous certification of George W. Bush as the winner of Florida's electoral votes to stand. Florida's 25 electoral votes gave Bush, the Republican candidate, 271 electoral votes, defeating Democratic candidate Al Gore, who ended up with 266 electoral votes (with one D.C. elector abstaining). A majority (270) of the electoral votes are needed to win the Presidency or Vice Presidency in the Electoral College. The decision would turn out to be highly controversial.

In 1817 a Cincinnati syndicate purchased a 974-acre tract at the mouth of Swan Creek and named it Port Lawrence.

The syndicate failed 3 years later, and the settlement joined with a river settlement to the north called Vistula. The inhabitants of this joined settlement chose the name Toledo,

A conflict between Ohio and the Michigan Territory, called the Toledo War (1835-1836), was "fought" over a narrow strip of land from the Indiana border to Lake Erie, now containing the city and the suburbs of Sylvania and Oregon. The strip—which varied between five and eight miles in width—was claimed by the state of Ohio and the Michigan Territory due to old conflicting legislation about where the Ohio-Michigan state line should be. Militias from both states were sent but never engaged.

In the end, the state of Ohio was awarded the land after the state of Michigan was given the Upper Peninsula in exchange.

Although he managed to regain his course, he reported seeing low-lying hills covered with forests some distance farther to the west. The land looked hospitable, but Bjarni was eager to reach Iceland to see his parents and did not land and explore the new lands. Baker, who led the American League in home runs in 1911, earned the nickname "Home Run" during the 1911 World Series in which he hit a go-ahead home run off Rube Marquard in game two and a ninth-inning game-tying home run off Christy Mathewson in game three.

We missed 990...Form 990 is the form charities and other tax exempt organization are required to file annually.

On the other hand...991 is the number of th MCI J4500 bus I drove to Cedar Point yesterday with a whole bunch of COGIOM church kids who just wanted to have fun.

What a brave soul, driving a busload of kids to Cedar Point,

Garret Hobart served 992 days as Vice President under McKinley.

During his tenure Hobart became one of the McKinleys' friends and his close confidant and adviser. He was called "Assistant to the President". Because of this and in contrast to the tradition of a powerless Vice Presidency, he is regarded as one of the most powerful Vice Presidents while in office.

While in office, Hobart became ill. He returned to New Jersey to recover, but instead became worse. He died from heart failure.

Babe Herman had 997 RBIs during his career.

During a game on August 15, 1926, at Ebbets Field, he tried to stretch a double off the right field wall into a triple with one out and the bases loaded; Chick Fewster, who had been on first, advanced to third base – which was already occupied by Dazzy Vance, who had started from second base but was now caught in a rundown and was dashing back to third. All three of them ended up at third base, with Herman not having watched the play in front of him, and the third baseman, Eddie Taylor, tagged all three just to be sure of getting as many outs as possible. The slow-footed Vance had been a major contributor to this situation, but according to the rules the lead runner was entitled to the base, so umpire Beans Reardon called Herman and Fewster out. Thus, Babe Herman was said to have "doubled into a double play"; he would later complain that no one remembered that he drove in the winning run on the play. (Hank DeBerry was on third when Vance was on second and Fewster was on first; when Babe got his hit, DeBerry scored.) This led to the following popular joke:

"The Dodgers have 3 men on base!"
"Oh, yeh? Which base?"

Eldon, Iowa's population was 998 at the 2000 census. Eldon is the site of the small Carpenter Gothic style house that has come to be known as the American Gothic House because Grant Wood used it for the background in his famous 1930 painting American Gothic.
