actually, since you're reading it, does it matter? It's only how it sounds in one's mind...

Smug, Smog, Smag...it's all ...well, adequate.

I whisper it while chopping vegetables for soup and sometimes hear it in the springtime breeze that wafts through the window.

hate to tell you...it's the brakes of the train that stops up the block...Smug once got caught on the tracks and they just can't shake his aura.

While it is not meant to actually be spoken, much like Yahweh, Smaug is pronounced with an Xhosa obstruent click following the "S" and a Ndebeles sonorant click between the "a" and the "u".

Also, due to the limitations of the text set here the accent grave over the "a" can not be seen.

that's the accent on the grave from which he was disinterred

Ndebele influence must demonstrate the usage of glottal stops. It cannot be any other way.

Yes, and obstruent must have a stop, or closure or stricture.

There are seven in my last name.

I say it differently depending on how I'm using it. Its very short and sharp at times: "Smaug, get me another beer!" Sometimes its long and drawn out and actually sounds like two words because my pitch elevates slightly between "Sma" and "ug": "Smmmaaaauuuuuuuuuuug? My feet need rubbed again." And then sometimes its VERY abbreviated: "Oh Smaug, oh Sma.....wait, is that it???!!!!??"

Seven stops on the Red Line gets you from here to Friendship Heights.
