VILE SEX CHATTER GROUP

It has come to my attention that if we form a "group" we can have a relatively nanny-free adult conversation.

So I formed the above named group.

It is awaiting approval...stay tuned for that.

if it's sex chatter you're interested in, there are any number of chat rooms and porn sites you can go to on the internet without corrupting sploofus too

Please be careful here. This is still a Family Friendly site (note the capital letters, because that is not just a request to keep it clean, but an official website designation that gets us supporters and helps keep this site alive).

I said "innuendo" and "off-color" humor were okay in the semi-private world of a group; not "vile sex" discussions.

How do the groups work? I only saw an editor commented in the other thread about them so I thought it would be a good idea to keep the easily offended people out of the more adult conversations.

The title was a joke, but, hey, think how much worse it could have been

One of the things that I noticed before signing up for Sploofus was its Family Friendly seal on the front page. The island denoted kind of a safe area on the Internet where people could play trivia games and not be bombarded by sexual and violent content. With so many other places that offer that type of material on the Internet I wonder why a few players keep demanding that this site change to their fit their whims. I have read a lot of posts on this board that offered encouragement and congratulations to fellow "islanders". How about focusing on that aspect of Sploofus rather than trying to promote insults and sexual innuendos.

An odd place, but maybe this would be a good time to discuss groups, both for the Beta Testers who already have access to them, and for those who will soon be joining us in 2.0.

Groups are designed to be communities within the Sploofus Island community, to bring together people sharing a common interest. Among the groups already started are those catering to interests in Astronomy, Baseball, Bible Trivia, Elvis, Geneology, Healthcare, "Lost", the Middle Ages, Pets, Quilting, Shakespeare, Teaching and Travel.

Each Group has its own Forum, plus places where you can recommend pertinent Sploofus Quizzes, Kerblunks and Trivia Squares, as well as other online resources. Groups also have their own Photo Galleries.

Right now there are only a handful of Groups established and the beta testers don't seem to be making full use of this new feature. There are only a couple of recommendations for improvements to the Group system; personally I find the discussion rooms there less accessible than the regular BBS forums. More beta testers need to be trying to participate in Groups, loading photos, adding games to the recommendations list and exploring the possibilities - ie finding the bugs and recommending improvements!

Beta testers - use the orange Community drop-down menu, and look below the Chant Room link!

I think something that might be helpful in groups is, at first glance, to be able to tell if there are any new posts. As it is now, all you can see is the time and date of the original post. If you glance in there, you have to go into each individual thread to see if anyone posted anything new.

With the chat forum here, you can see a date & time stamp of the last new post in each thread. If nothing has been udpated since the last time you read it, you don't need to go back into the thread. I'm finding that if I glance into a Group and see the same date & time stamp all the time, I don't go into the thread and participate.

I thought it might be nice to have a list of the groups I joined show up to the right when I am here in BBS, so I could select to go from Salty Dog to Trivia Tangents, to one of my Group discussions.

And I agree, the forums there need to look more like the ones here, with 'last updated' info.

In my opinion, and I AM entitled to one, the encouragement, congratulations etc. that Townline mentioned can go a little over the top (a lot). I wish everyone well but I do not "pray" for them and the congrats can get a little nauseous at times. Let's have more "innuendos" and more mature (look who's talking,LOL) subject matter. If it offends someone, stay out of it. Simple? Yes! Onward and Upward.

I think there should be a, "Just My Opinion" thread where many of the things like politics, and religion can be openly discussed without anyone being offended. If you are an Atheist then discuss why, if you are Christian offer your reasons, but do not join this group if you are not ready to listen to the opinions, or beliefs of others.

Lets face it the one thing that this site has that I have not found in any other place is some of the greatest minds anywhere on the planet. When such a gathering of intellectual minds are brought together there will "ALWAYS" be a debate in the making, because that is what intelligent minds do, ie the possible reason for how they became intelligent in the first place. Listening, discussing, and learning from others experiences is how we gain knowledge of things we never knew. This of course means you are more then likely going to hear somthing that upsets you, or that you disagree with, but you must learn to discuss it openly, and humanely, if you cannot then just don't participate.

Unfortunately Sploofus Island being what it is has not purposely created this scenario, but it still exists, and yes it is a Family Friendly site, but a site filled with intelligence, wit, and wisdom, and there is absolutely no way to reverse this effect for it needs a place to grow, and Sploofus is very fertile ground. So create the thread already lol Rocco

Townline, I agree. I really believe that the number of people wanting this site to change to suit their sexual humor are few in number.

And, Donden, what is wrong with encouragement? Many of us are in tough work situations, difficult family problems and it's just nice to have one place where someone can give you a pat on the back for solving a puzzle quickly or writing a good quiz.
But we get into deeper discussions on a variety of subjects and everyone seems to do fairly well with those. It's not as if ALL that gets on BSS is prayer requests (which you can post 'good luck' if you don't pray) and congratulations.

You say if a subject matter offends me, stay out of it (chat). I pay platinum fee to have full use of Sploofus -- so long as my doing so does not offend anyone. I think it only reasonable to expect the same for others: You can have full use of Sploofus so long as your doing so does not offend anyone. If you choose to indulge in explicit sexual chat, do it on a site designed for that. I guarantee you, you won't find me reading your posts there.

Just what the heck is wrong with having a safe haven?

We all have different versions and different levels of what makes us feel uncomfortable. While I respect other people's beliefs and morals, I get really pissy when they expect that I must practice them. For example, some people don't believe in gambling and therefore try to enact laws that make gambling illegal for everyone. Some people don't believe in drinking alcohol and decide that it should be illegal for everyone. But those who don't believe in gambling but still drink, think the alcohol-ban folks are zealots, and those who don't drink but believe in gambling, think the gambling folks are depraved.

While there are Groups on here that I would find unattractive, I applaud those people getting together and discussing them in an area where I can choose not to participate. I would hope those who don't enjoy the same interests and beliefs as I do, will choose not to inject their opinions into mine and will afford me the same respect.

And for those who haven't figured it out yet, Smaug is just yanking another chain. Nobody on here really intends to have vile sex talk. Good grief people. Gullible much?

lol.....

The "vile" applied to the "chatter' not the "sex". The proposition was self-referential derogatory humor.

It is interesting to watch the censor types here tie themselves in logistical knots fighting a move to shove the adult joshing into its own group. That way y'all won't have to fret over it, and it would be labeled, and you won't mistakenly open a thread, read 30 messages by mistake, and then write that you are appalled.

You should be thrilled. And a phpbb board could be set up for Sploofus users. I'd be more than happy to do it, it takes less than an hour and there would be the ability to post pictures, etc. I run a bunch of them. I had suggested it to Justin way back, it is a ready made add-on, its free, and I'm not sure why he went with this very weak structure.

Funtrivia does that:

Donden - yes people are entitled to opinions that is why I thought I could express mine.

Roccotab - it would great to have a serious board where people could discuss topics such as politics and religion. Hopefully it would be discussions and not name calling.

Smaug - Please setup a chat board somewhere to have the conversations you desire and invite Sploofus members that want to join you. I have no problem with you having any type of conversations you like. I can easily avoid them by not visiting your board. If anyone is offended by the family friendly restrictions that Sploofus has they don't have to become members.

Eesusbejesus - I realize that Smaug has a real need to be the center of attention and enjoys posting just to get reactions. Normally I don't react to people like him because it only encourages their rude behavior.

What bothers me is the way the remarks are injected into other people's serious conversations. Shortly after I signed up I read a post from a member whose relative had been mauled by a pit bull and required surgery. In the middle of the discussion the following posts were made:

Eesusbejesus
Smaug bit me.

Nelly
He obviously needs a muzzle and a leash, Lodi! lol

Smaug
As long as there is a safe word, fine.

1mks

Smaug

Can you imagine being in a conversation with someone that had just experienced the trauma of having a relative mauled and someone interupt with those comments?

The thread to which you refer Townline was posted by Ruth (Phitzy) about her brother Ralph and the terrible mauling by a pit bull. You did NOT note that Lodi, Marsha and myself had all expressed our horror at this and best wishes for Ralph's speedy recovery earlier in the thread. Neither I, nor I'm sure, the others would wish to hurt or upset Ruth in anyway - she's a lovely person with a great sense of humour! As always in times of stress and sadness there are attempts to be light hearted along with the commiserations and support. From a personal point of view, I've found this has helped me get through some of the worst moments of my life but of course I appreciate everyone is different.
Ruth if you were upset by my comment, I apologise.

Well, all of you are like my extended family...so the comments starting with "Smaug bit me" was really kind of like family dinners.

As an example: Ralph had his skin graft today, when he asked if I could pick him up I said "no skin off my ass" then laughed.

Laughter is good for the soul.

It's curious to me to read this string and see a thread of censorship running through it and another thread battling it at the same time. The scab continues to get picked.

There are those with their very reasonable entreaties and then the silliness ensues (I must admit I love the silliness most of all). Then it will turn serious once again and some good and bad points are made depending on your point of view. This is what makes the BBS addictive. Not the fact that Smaug named it "vile sex talk", but admit it....you had to look didn't you? You either had a smile on your face or you were muttering to yourself about that damn Smaug. Well...good!!!

Read the thread, it has some funny stuff and some not so funny stuff and some aren't we the greatest thing since sliced bread stuff in it as well.

So to Smaug...keep those tongue in cheek topics coming so you can make folks laugh or piss them off, it's all about the reactions after all isn't it?

Question? How many members would Sploofus have if the BBS Chat Rooms were not available.
Answer- A lot less. The interactions are a huge reason I've become "addicted."

It should be even better when Sploofus 2.0 allows for more "Groups".
If Smaug actually starts a new group {e.g - No Nannies Allowed]- at least ignore it if it seems to go down a road less travelled.

I'm looking forward to the "Astronomy" group- I'll definitely enjoy that.
[But I'll still pop in time to time on No Nannies also.]
Let's just have fun; and try not to to hit below the belt.
