Great puzzle, Al! I didn't really think I knew that much about Mad, but kept all of my points and did it in less moves than a lot of other puzzles. Thanks!

What a fun puzzle! I was a Mad reader from 8 years til I was about 20. I remember the movie and tv parodies:
Little House Oh So Dreary
The Putrid Family (in which the David Cassidy character sings the following (tune of "I think I love you")
Last night,
I woke from sleep in horror
'Cuz I'd had an awful nightmare
That I was just a nameless. average kid.
Not famous, God forbid.
With little girls not screaming.
I'm glad I was only dreaming,
'Cuz I dig that I'm so big!
I think I love me.....

Can't remember what happened this morning, yet still remember this song from Mad. Willam F. Gaines is so happy right now!
Thanks Al, for the great WP!

OK now I'm beginning to understand where you get your ever so slightly warped sense of humor!
P.S. - the WP was great

I know what you mean Leah! Years of science, math, history ... all drained from my brain, but I still remember the Mad parody of 'Grease'. (Sunburn blotch/Sand up my crotch/Ain't no fun in suuuummer love ...)

Very fun puzzle Alvandy.

Fun Puzzle Al!

Interesting fact:

The magazine was commonly cited as one of the three greatest publishing successes of the 1950s, along with Playboy and TV Guide.

Pretty much a perfect WP, smarty yorky pants. And I don't even like MAD magazine. But I sure liked the WP.

Al, your WP was very entertaining, but I'd expect no less, considering your good sense of humor. I also learned some things I didn't know previously. Thanks!

Loved this WP...brought back great memories! I used to read the comic book. When it was changed to a magazine, I remember buying the first Mad magazine at Fayder's Drug Store in Miami. My mother, always the saver, kept it as a "first edition", and a few years ago I gave it to my son, who publishes comic books.

Fun puzzle Al. Enjoyed it even though I knew nothing about it and surprisingly did quite well! Wish I could read Mad now and check it out for myself.
Thank you.

Terrific puzzle, dude! I used to read it as a kid - still pick 'em up sometimes in thrift shops and yard sales. The fold-ins were brilliant, but can you believe I never realized until early this morning that it had anything to do with Playboy!

Wait one.

Rowlanda got a HOUSE??? Nobody tells me anything!

OUTSTANDING! Congrats, honey! All the best! >clink<

Maurlin, what a nice story! I have a Spiderman first edition, collected comics for years, into my 20s, all long gone but that one.
What a cool job, to be a comic book publisher!

Thanks to everyone for taking the MAD puzzle and for all the positive comments- either here or by private messages.
It appears that most everyone finished with a good score and didn't lose too many points.
I'm happy that I scored 5000 points too.

[oh, I was supposed to do well. ]

Anyway, it was a fun "sensation" to fill in letters from a puzzle of your own progeny.
it helps you feel so much more appreciative of the Sploofus Editors and players/volunteers who have been doing this all along and recently.
Ten puzzles; ten clues; and a chance for everyone to come away learning something; bringing back memories; and feeling pretty good with their effort. That makes it a big challenge to develop word puzzles, for sure. I don't know if anyone "bailed"- I hope not.

I think all who have written a Word Puzzle have a new appreciation for just how great our editors really are.
A special kudos to Sploofusgenie- he [she?] was very supportive of the process, and informed me that the MAD Magazine word puzzle did not require any revisions from my original submission. I appreciate the complement.

I was hoping that the topic was "fair game" for everyone- whether they live in the U.S.- Canada-U.K.- Australia or elsewhere. MAD has been around for over 55 years,so it is someone of an icon of humor magazines. Also, if someone never read it- it was "search engine-able" to help them find the "madness" behind my clues.

If it brought back memories and a few chuckles- then I'm happy that I chose that topic.

Rest assured- My motto too- What me worry if you did not enjoy this puzzle?"

If anyone wants to know the complete ten clues/ puzzles- please send a private message.

Thanks again.

of course- from York, PA- first capital of united states
peppermint patties are currently on sale- buy a bag- 70% less fat.

flipped me out of the site, and never got back to it....
Sounds as if it was Fun, and Nostalgia for everybody.

Wish I culd invite you all to a Housewarming Party.

Where did you find my high school graduation pic anyway.
I grew a mustache after I got married because of my baby face.

Don't worry - be happy!

peppermint patties are on sale- buy some- dark chocolate and 70% less fat

Hate dark chocolate....
Like my fat....
It cushions me and I bounce
1. When my dogs drag me around and I fall
2. When I fell off my roof a couple of years ago
3. When I get knocked down on my
fanny for being a Smart Ass....

Darn it- we lost a candy sale to Rowlanda.

Well, try this- how about purchasing a powerful; gas economical and chic [not the same as our Sploofus CHICKF] Harley-Davidson "Fat Boy"?

Or to buff up, how about the best quality set of barbells? They'll "pump you up."

Where, you may ask - are these from?

York, PA- first capital of united states

but some of you knew that [quiz pending- editors?]
P.S.-------oh Chickfbref- you're pretty chic too!
