WORDROUND LOADING TIMES

How come TQOTD's and Showdown Challenge questions can be timed from the milisecond the actual question pops up on your screen, but the wordrounds cannot? Thanks for the responses, sorry if this has been asked before.

Dunno. I would sure be a lot faster if WordRounds didn't take so long to load. I might give Kimmie a run for her money!

The load times vary from Round to Round, and personally I like this, I like the frustration of having to wait 40secs with my first shot and then 2secs on the next one. It gets the brain working and due to the fact I have Dial Up I need as much of an advantage as possible. Remember the poor loading times are a disadvantage for everyone.

My WordRounds always seem to take somewhere in the range of 10-20 seconds to load. And I am on cable modem. I cannot imagine what dial up must be like. I'm very glad to see this thread, as I thought it was only my cable company.

So no one has any idea why Sploofus can time the QTOTD and Showdown challenge questions from when the screen pops up, not when you hit the button, but the wordrounds can only be timed from when you hit your button, not when they pop up on the screen???

I'm thinking that it doesn't matter what you internet connection is like. At work on dial up I can sometimes score just as fast as I can at home on cable. It may be something else causing it, like the computers themselves may not run fast enough, or something like that.

A couple of months ago my cable service (the internet connection) was dying at around 9 PM every night and staying dead until around 5 AM. They took a month (and nightly calls from me to complain) to get it straightened out. Turned out to be moisture (dew) getting into a connection at the trunk for my neighborhood when the sun went down.
Anyhoo....I signed up for a dial-up account to sign onto when my cable was down so I could play Sploofus in the evenings. My Word Round times were about the same across the board with dial-up as they were on cable. Sometimes a couple of puzzles would take forever to load, but they do that on cable too. I could still get low 20 second rounds on dial-up.
You can do several things to speed up your page load times like clear your internet cache, defrag your hard drive, and reduce the amount of things running in the background like useless programs that start with Windows, but that you only use once in a blue moon.

I am thinking that the culprit here is the Sploofus server, not our individual pc's. One thing I have noticed that the better players seem to do is they wait until the end of the round to start playing. I guess the thinking there is that most players have finished and the server is not being taxed like it was earlier in the round. Just a thought!

Yawbus, I agree with you mainly, but playing at the end does not always work. I normally am in the top ten and due to "work" (which gets in the way), I cannot log on every hour, so I start playing, for example at 4:50 PM or 4:55 PM then play the next round right away, say 5:01 PM, then I do not waste work time or time at home. I love to play so I try to as much as possible. By the way , I play on dial up and high speed, there is no difference

Got it, Marmac. I guess I am trying to find an example to prove that it is the server traffic causing the problem and not the player's computers. I realize my example may not be hard and fast. I also noticed that late at night the load times seem to be better, when obviously less players are logged in. Hey - it just makes it more challenging for everyone!

One of sploofus said it was the data server processor-this was after he/she was on shout in the word rounds.He/she even said the word round loading times were horrible!!Martha
