A few months back we had a contest on what the population or membership would be be the end of the year, we all took a guess. The number kept getting higher, but if you check the amount of players, it sometimes is pretty low. With the introduction of the Beta 2.0 there apparently is a need for tweaking. We all know if we have too much information in most of our PC's , they tend to slow down. My suggestion is to send an e-mail to all the names on the long Sploofus list. Ask the person if they want their name to remain on the list as a player or have it removed. Give the addressee until the end of June (or whatever date that would be convenient) to leave their name on the list or have it removed. Besides giving your system a little room, you might just remind some expired memberships to renew or pick up a few new paying members. Back in the 80's our VFW used to do what was called shotgun mailing, it always had results.

Wouldn't it just be easier to get rid of anyone who has been signed up for over a year and is still on level one? Sure would make it easier to try to find people.

Why prune a list you can point prospective advertisers and partners to as large?

You might think some are "dead" accounts, but they could may come back and lurk (long enough to read banner ads )

Everyone gets the TQOTD, so the acocunts are pinged regularly....

I see what you are saying, I'm thinking this might speed up getting everyone on the same page and all be on 2.0. There are a few pissed off members who feel left behind.

I think that Justin wants to get all the bugs out of 2.0 before opening it to everyone. That's what the bug reports are all about. I don't think it is the number of players - just how well the features are operating.

But PMB's question does bring up a point to be considered about Sploofus memberships.

Once 2.0 is released to all, an e-mail to all accounts with details and a "welcome to the new Sploofus " message might entice some to become active again.

Perhaps a new, improved, challenging, Sploofus will rekindle the flame of some past active members.
While perusing the player directory [for potential showdown victims- oh behave!] ,
I've noticed quite a few seemingly "inactive' accounts that have already reached much higher levels than mine.
They used to play a lot- let's try to bring them back.

I think Bill is just afraid that when the bugs get worked out and all of a sudden that 2.0 is "it" and not beta that we are going to easily reach my prediction and he'll be out of the running ...but I could be wrong!

If an email address doesn't bounce - don't remove it...

would be unfair to get rid of people just because there only on level one . im only on 17 but thats because i save questions up and answer them in a hurry .sp is for every one .People play it on there own level when and if they want xxj

I read somewhere that 60 or 90 days of inactivity on an account would cause it to be purged. I had students sign up one year, and then again the next year, the ones who hadn't played in between had to sign up again with a new user name.

I had someone send me a comment on one of my quizzes a few days ago and I checked out his info page. He had just joined that day, was at Level 1.0 and had taken 3 quizzes. He had 840 All-Time jackpot points and he was ranked #31,544 of 43,618.

Suzer ... you're such a cool teacher to assign Sploofus to your students. I want to take *your* class!

I thought it would be a fun alternative way for them to take multiple-guess quizzes on plot and characters in plays we were reading! I also planned for them to do some research on playwrights and write quizzes of their own, but we had a computer lab snafu and then our admin locked us out of all gaming sites at school.

By the time I got them to release Sploofus from the "forbidden list" we had no more time to be in the computer lab! But I am working on a similar unit for this next year...and trying to get a laptop lab for my room so we don't have to go to the libarary to work on computers!

It didn't hurt my points total either
