GIVE US A BREAK

I've notice that some wordround entrants are posting unbelievably low response times. today one time was 5.8 seconds. that can't possibly be. what's going on?

they call them flukes, but only a certain priveledged few get them, and they seem to get them quite often, I've done wrs and wps at least 100,000 times this past year and a half and never gotten one.

It's been said before, but if you ONLY average 30-35 seconds and get a 10 second fluke, you probably think 'Wow, I really did well then!'

If someone who averages 20-22 seconds gets a 10 second fluke the whining and wingeing starts!

I've even seen a fluke give time of minus 360+ seconds!

Andy.

I've had one "fluke" since playing. My best Word Round score is 16 seconds- probably a 10 second fluke.
When that occurred, I noticed the timer bar cycling for quite awhile before unveiling the questions. I answered all 10 correctly and was surprised to see a 16 seconds round.
The timer bar "arousal" is the key, I believe.
So, it appears that the mega-speed players are more "arousing" than we "slowskies".

Not fair!

Yes, I'm telling everyone that a few of us have cracked the sploofus code, can hack into the computer system, and are able to manipulate WR scores to our advantage. It cost thousands of dollars in equipment and manpower, but the 10 seconds it has shaved off of our WR scores was worth every penny and every sleepless night figuring out how to do it.

You folks are a hoot! When you figure out what to do with all those extra sploofus points you may get, when you are lucky enough to get a fluke, please let me know. I've spent many sleepless nights trying to work out what to do with my points. So, I decided I'd just play for the fun of it.

Trust me on this, as one who has beaten this subject TO DEATH. (I guarantee lots of regs groaned as soon as they saw my name on this. The 5 sec WR's, just are.

If you persue it, you will get the "you are a newbie so dont understand" pat on the head answer. You will get the "its a fluke" answer. You will get the "how dare you accuse this beloved member of cheating" answer. You will get the "you think I cant do it in less that 15 seconds" (my favorite) answer.

The fact of the matter is that the people getting the super fast WR's are REALLY good at them and possibly have the benefit of quick computer. There are some things that will improve your times such as scanning the WR rather than reading them and the most helpful hint, is to hit the enter button rather that clicking on it with your mouse.(thanks smoke) Try just to beat your own times, its much less frustrating and remember if nothing else, doing the WR's is a quick 1000 points per hour. This is a very fun site, full of nice people. Just have fun!

As someone who has played over a year & done countless rounds, flukes are possible. I had one that over minus 300 secs. No cheating involved, just a computer thingy. I know I'm gonna catch Hell for this, but times under 7- 8 secs. are flukes. I don't care how many times a person gets them. Someone who is very fast did some tests by just going straight down, no reading & the best they could do was 5 sec. The 10 - 12 sec. ones you see are real. Just to be clear, flukes are not cheating, nobody can make the system do it. Perhaps Justin could explain why some links get them more often? Or perhaps they are not flukes & most of us have systems or links that add seconds to our times. Justin did say he would be doing something to address lag time in the Beta 2 version. I know the system has gotten faster for all but maybe still isn't quite equal. Peace

These "flukes' seem to run in cycles. Every time some modification is made to Sploofus it seems some different player rises to the top.

It must be very dependant on equipment configuration and the quality of connection.

I used to get flukes all the time a few years ago, then some one else started getting them and I could barely beat 20 seconds for a long time. It drove me nuts.

About a month ago a change was made to the system and my times improved for every round by about 10 seconds.

Why...I don't know.

I tried once and even just marking I couldn't get faster than 15 seconds on my computer system.
I knew it was glitchy one day when I actually scored 49 seconds, rather than my usual 79. Thought I was hot for about a nanosecond till I realized, uh, no.

You can always "shift" "control" and allow the lady to "enter".

That oughta be arousing.

If the gentleman still reaches the "end" too soon, she can "page up" and "page down" rapidly until she reaches "home".

Sorry folks- gone for awhile- stopped at a Best Buy store.
I asked a salesman for recommendations to enable my keyboard to arouse to the occasion.
[P.S. he had heard of Sploofus, so was happy to give advice].

Before each Word Round- he said to try stroking the K & Y keys to lessen the friction on the motherboard. That might speed up my computer.

It's worth a try.

Does anyone else feel this thread
evolved from one vein to another????
As soon as the words key arousal were used
we could just feel the members stiffening....
Once again, cheating caused everyone to
stand to attention, and the female members
were happy to accommodate the change....
Sometimes we are happy to under score, and
at other times we prefer to be top doggie
Have fun boys and girls, this is not a race
Sploofus is about respectful association
to gain mutual benefit....

Heed her wisdom and experience. According to her profile, she's been "around the world."

I was beaten out of my first WordRound victory by a -38 second fluke score. Turned in a support ticket that was answered with "thanks for sending in your money, but your concern is not a priority" (paraphrased of course). "We are busy resetting platinum members TQOTD so that they may have a second chance". It was almost like a telephone conversation, because I am almost postive that I detected a 'clique' not unlike being hung up on. I have since won a WordRound, but feel certain that it will be taken away from me. Good Day.

cheating....
That is why we get so bored and

Don't worry....if there are ways

cleaning up all the unused data

Keithr81052, what Rowlanda is saying (referring to her post about updated equipment) is that if you drive a Model T Ford and are getting passed by a Ferrari, don't blame the driver of the Ferrari for passing you.

So far as I know, the only games that players could cheat at would be the word puzzles, quizzes and on the Beta version, the trivia squares and kerblunk and the only way to cheat at those is for two people to be taking the quizzes and then sharing the answers. On the WP you would have to both get the same puzzles to cheat.

In other words, it's a lot more work to cheat than to play fair. As I understand it, Justin watches for signs of cheating and those players disappear from the site. In the nearly 2 years I've been here I have seen that happen a couple times.

So enough about cheating. 99.9% of the players play fair and of those WR and WM players who get excellent scores, just admit, they're better players than you are. Some of them play by the hour every day - I may play maybe once a month or so. Why should I complain if my score isn't as good as theirs? And maybe I could play as much as they do and still never get as good as they are.

I've never seen so many people get so excited over points that aren't worth anything!

Let's discuss politics or religion. Those should be safer subjects.

I understand what she was saying, and I'm not accusing anyone of cheating, my point was that if the only reason you spend money on a new faster system is to do wrs quicker, it seems to me a waste of money, the points on here aren't worth anything anyway.
