One of the greatest guitarist in rock and roll history passed away today...Bo Diddley. He was 79 years old...My thoughts and prayers are with his family...

Bo Diddley [Elias McDaniel] was a rock pioneer. His legacy has been established. RIP.

[from a newspaper column]
Bo Diddley would have been immensely rich had it been possible to copyright a rhythm.
The distorted shuffle beat he created on guitar in the mid-1950s is the taproot of rhythm and blues and rock music. Mr. Diddley, who died Monday of heart failure at 79, strongly influenced British guitarists Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones as well as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page during their days in the Yardbirds.

Hey, Bo Didley!!!

I walked 47 miles of barbed wire,
Used a cobra snake for a neck tie.
Got a brand new house on the roadside,
Made out of rattlesnake hide.
I got a brand new chimney made on top,
Made out of human skulls.
Now come on darling let's take a little walk, tell me,
Who do you love,
Who do you love, Who do you love, Who do you love.

Arlene took me by the hand,
And said oooh eeeh daddy I understand.
Who do you love,
Who do you love, Who do you love, Who do you love.
The night was black and the night was blue,
And around the corner an ice wagon flew.
A bump was a hittin' lord and somebody screemed,
You should have heard just what I seen.
Who do you love, Who do you love, Who do you love, Who do you love.

Arleen took me by my hand, she said Ooo-ee Bo you know I understand
I got a tombstone hand and a graveyard mind,
I lived long enough and I ain't scared of dying.

thanks, Bo.

Made me very sad. Great guitar player and role model for many rock stars.

Why couldn't God take Yves St. Laurent instead?

Oh wait, nevermind.

"The Originator" was also one of the first musicians of any genre to employ female guitarists - 'Lady Bo' (Peggy Jones) played with Bo from the late '50s.
And that Gretsch 'Twank Plank' is the most difficult guitar I've ever attempted to get to grips with: that 'duh-duh-duh-duh-duh DUH DUH' time sig is about the only damn thing that works on it!

All together now -
"She rolled right up to my front door,
Knocked an knocked til her fist got sore,
When she turned and walked away,
All I could hear my baby say:

Hey bo diddley, oh bo diddley,
Hey bo diddley, oh bo diddley!"
