Great puzzle and really good clues as well! Thanks Al!

Grrrrrr. On my first board, I solved it but was told I was wrong. So I picked all the correct letters and then carefully retyped the answer, but again was told "Sorry." Who out there hates me?

That has happened to me as well. Sometimes it only takes the answer after you type in all the letters. Strange glitch that thankfully doesn't happen too often.

I not only solved it with all the letters, but correctly typed the answer--to no avail.

And I so wanted to do this WP!

Great puzzle Al - had fun and learned a factoid or two along the way.
P.S. Cujgie - did you somehow place an extra space between words? That has happened to me a few times and costs you even though all of the letters are right.

Good job. We totally blew the last one and would have had a good score. But... oh well. Nice puzzle, even though pretty complicated. Thanks!

Good puzzle. I loved the way you worked ideas into the puzzle. I worked hard to do well. Didn't want to mess up this one.

Gotta say this is also one of my faves. Enjoyed learning, too.

Thanks to you, at every checkout counter I now notice if there are Peppermint Patties there, where I had blissfully walked by ignorantly for decades having never really noticed! Just what I needed. One more candy I can't live without

WTG Al, who happens to live in the first capital of The United States of America I knew you could get a fine WP out of one of my favourites. Now quite bogarting the PP's, pass them over to me

Thanks to everyone for taking the puzzle and for the positive comments.
It appears that most everyone scored well, and found the clues to be helpful.
A special thanks to Sploofernatural for excellent editing guidance and suggestions to make the puzzle more "minty."
So, if you get the urge at the supermarket check-out for a low-fat, dark chocolate treat---------------

See, I didn't get to take this puzzle, and I really wanted to, I know the guy from York, the first yadda yadda, would make up a good one. The universal time-space continuum conspired against me doing so, however.

So, why can't WP's each be active for 24 hours, overlapping each other...still getting a new one every 12 hours but having 2 active ones at any given time? What a great idea, I think I'll suggest it.

That sounds like a great idea, Ron. I alway have to rush them in my lunch hour or people keep interrupting!

Great puzzle Al, thank you! Enjoyed it, although I have to confess to heresy - I don't think I'd like York peppermint patties!

It's chocolate, it's sweet, it's pepperminty, what's not to like?

Blend up a few with a couple ounces of Makers Mark. MMMboy, now you got you somepin. Kind of an easter egg mint julep.

Cool Al! Didn't get to post earlier...I will NEVER see another peppermint patty without thinking of you!

Thank you so much!

I'm up for us getting all 10, too, rather than just 5. I guess it's an attempt to keep people from cheating - but cheaters will always find a way.

And I know that would change all the scoring and points, blah blah.

But it mostly keeps us all from having that additional fun. How many times have we asked for the remaining 5 after time is up?

Tresgatos  (Level: 201.7 - Posts: 4147)

While I definitely enjoy seeing all 10 phrases for the WPs, I'd like to continue to play the WPs the way we do now -- with five phrases per WP. I know a lot of people here are lightning fast playing the WPs, but I'm still kind of slow at them, so I think it'd be tough for me to find the time to play both WPs per day if they consisted of 10 phrases each. (I already have trouble finding time for both and end up multitasking while I'm trying to do the WPs.) Aside from time constraints, there also might be some Sploofusers who might not have the mental stamina to complete a 10-phrase WP all in one sitting. It'd be different if you could, say, bookmark the WP and come back to it later, sort of like a crossword puzzle.

In 2006, in this thread:

Justin talked about implementing an archival system for WPs. I don't know if that's still on his to-do list or not. For me personally, some sort of archival system would be nice, not only to be able to take WPs you've missed, but also to be able to see all 10 phrases of any WP.

OTOH, perhaps it would be possible for the WP system to be designed such that those who wanted to could take a 10-phrase WP while others took a 5-phrase one.

Just throwing out possibilities here.

There was a high risk of gaining two pounds on your WP, Al.....but how could something so yummy be resisted?
Thank you, lots of fun, cute stuff....!!

While we're talking WP here, I have made some scoring suggestions. There could be an overall WP score combining the time, points, and number of steps (or letters or whatever it is). Either add them or multiply them, it would give an overall value of ones skill in general. Also, or instead, if each column of WP for time, points, steps, and overall could be sorted individually, you could see how you compare with the crowd in each category. More opportunities to get some feeble pathetic sense of well-being out of my efforts to get into the top 50 or 100 once in a while.
