Wow Sharyn, you & I must have had similar childhoods, I'm 9 years younger, but we were always behind the times in the backwoods of BC Great trip down memory lane

Thanks everyone. I thought many of you might relate to a slower time when things were less complicated. I enjoyed writing it and I think it was google-proof.
Thanks again,

NOW I can post my response.

excellent puzzle. I share some of those memories as well, such as dressing up in a suit, hat and gloves to go to church. Now many people wear jeans, flipflops and hair that ends up looking like mine starts out when I wake up mornings. I guess that's OK but I miss the times when people thought going to church was special and deserved your best.

On Sundays the families within several miles of us would all pack big lunches and we went to the Niobrara River for the day. We ate at noon and whatever food was left sat on the picnic table until late afternoon where we finished the food for supper before going home to milk cows and do the evening chores. No one ever got sick from the food.

The most fun was in mid afternoon when the heat was at its highest someone would toss a water on someone else, who would grab a bigger container of water to throw back, and the waterfight was on. What fun! Seems terribly simplistic now, doesn't it? Today we'd have to have special buckets for the water, water guns that shoot across the street, a timer, a referee, etc
