PHONETIC ROCK WP

Not phonetic at all. Sorry, but this one sucked!

Oogie, I really enjoyed this WP! I found it quite phonetic, not sure what Lettermanfan1 is talking about. Some of the phrases were really tough to get, so I lost lots of moves and points, but I was still entertained and challenged! Thumbs up from me!!!

very challenging - lots of hindsight for me - like a slap on the head and I could have had a V8

Danny thanks for a fun puzzle. My granddaughter is of the opinion I have totally lost my mind. She was sitting on the couch reading while I was "sounding" out the answers, all I heard was "Nana, why do you keep saying that word?!" Still laughing.

it was fun but not as 'fair' as the previous one.
still a little bit of cheating is to be expected.....
Thanks1

I wish I had done better, but no complaints about the puzzle itself.

boy that one knocked me on my bottom. But have never been in to classic rock, but thanks for giving the old brain a work out this morning anyway, and i have still never bailed from a puzzle yet. The only ones i miss are when we are taking our daughter to IU medical center. Sorry i will miss Mickey Mouse & company in the a. m. as he is my favorite but we will be back in Indy thursday and friday for tests as they are trying to decide what kind of surgery she is going to have. So good luck everyone and keep up the good work on all of your puzzles. charlotte

I did way better on this one than the last, but this concept will never
be one of my favorites. I knew what all five songs were supposed to be
fairly quickly, but that was little benefit when I then had to figure out
how someone else would phonetically sound things out.

It's just too idiosyncratic. Sorry.

The beauty of phonetics is that it is subjective. I may say hello as hay low and you might say hale owe. That said tricky puzzle, fun though.

Just a note:

It's 10:18 cst and I'm in 6th place with 49 moves.
Oogie is 19th with 68 moves.
David, you're 53rd with 94 moves.
There are about 13 more people behind you.

Three of my puzzles seemed to work out perfectly phonetically, though one of them threw me by having an actual word from the title instead of a phonetic representation.
Two of them were a stretch though - people do pronounce things differently but ... I'll be interested to see afterwards if anyone pronounces those 2 as written.

Still, it was fun, and kept me interested enough to make me late for work.

I am really grateful I didn't have to give back some of my points! Here again it's that generation gap with me. However, I am very proud of myself .. I actually knew TWO of the songs when I figured out the clues.

I thought the puzzle was well done and fun, even though I am too old to recognize most of the songs. The phoenetics worked on the puzzles I had.

I LOVED this puzzle! (Of course, the one song I didn't know KILLED me...but I didn't do too bad!). I had one that wasn't "quite" phonetic, but it was still easy to figure. The others were right on, and I thought one was brilliant!

Do more Oogs! These are challenging, but so much fun! I'm starting to get a strategy, kind of, that works (I am just a tiny bit prejudiced, but I wouldn't lie... )

I would never criticize anyone taking the time to write a puzzle, but I did find it somewhat frustrating. It wasn't really phonetic. Once I got it through my head that it wasn't phonetic I did pretty well.

Loved it! But like Sun, I came across a song that I didn't know, so I had to fill in all the letters.

I love these kinds of puzzles. I love the ones you have to figure out.

I'm currently in 2nd to last place with 800 points. I actually did better on the Welsh Castles puzzle.

I had lots of those V8 moments after I'd filled in all the letters. D'oh!

I pretty well knew what song to expect based on the clue, which made the job easier.
Overall, I scored pretty well, though one puzzle was a phonetic stretch for me.
Getting better with this type of puzzle with experience.

Extremely challenging. Got the first 3 almost perfectly then blew the last two. Thanks! Now we have to take a pill and lie down for a while.

I meant to post this yesterday ... anyway, for those who didn't like Oogie's WP, remember that he's said he's basing his WPs partially on the game Mad Gabs, only I think of his WPs as sort of Mad Gabs in reverse. Anyway, basically, from my point of view, the "phonetics" can't be expected to be perfect but best approximations, i.e. Oogie's trying to come up with unrelated words that, when put together, will sound like, not sound precisely like, whatever is hinted at by the clue. That said, I thought Oogie did a fine job with this WP, at least in terms of the songs I got.

We wouldn't want them to be too easy, would we?

Here's one for you to whet your appetite: "eye eight chalk lot."

Correction on my previous post:

I wrote: "Oogie's trying to come up with unrelated words that, when put together, will sound like, not sound precisely like, whatever is hinted at by the clue."

Sorry, naturally if Oogie can come up with a string of words that sound precisely like a title or name that he's shooting for, that's great, but what I was trying to say is that I personally don't expect such precision. (This is easier to explain if you're familiar with Mad Gabs.) Anyway, sorry for any confusion!
