REQUEST TO EDITORS

Dearest Editors,
would it be possible to institute a policy of notifying quiz authors (at least gold members) when you've put a quiz aside for an extended period?
I've had 14 quizzes ahead of my 'Ugly People' quiz for 3 solid days. Just a quick note from you to update me on what is evidently a problem would be much appreciated.
Sorry to post this request here, but since we can't communicate otherwise with the Editors I hadn't much choice.
Cheers.

I can only assume that your quiz was edited and returned for some reason. Now it 'belongs' to a particular editor and only that editor. If for some reason that person has gone out of town, or gets swamped with real life issues, or illness, they don't edit for a few days and it can seem as though your quiz is stuck! We are human, afterall, but we do try to clear out our 'owned quizzes' before we take an editing break.

I can assure you that if it has been stuck at #14 for days it is only stuck behind other 'owned' quizzes, and will be the first quiz to be seen when that editor logs in to the editing screen.

We're sorry for any inconvenience. There are currently 12 editors (plus Mr. Sploofus himself) and over 11,000 quizzes have been reviewed since the editing process began in Sept. '05 (that's under 5 months ago!).

We now have almost 9000 members! But new editors are being inducted soon so that should keep the queue moving!

Hope that explains it!

I don't know how you guys (editors) find time to play sploofus yourselves, let alone have a personal life. I hope you get a break on the gold membership.

Thanks, Sploofizz. Hadn't thought of it that way - figured since it was 'stuck' that it had been either deemed problematic or forgotten. Didn't know you guys divvied up quizzes beforehand, I imagined you drawing continuously from a single pool. It's helpful knowing how you work, thanks again. I'll just wait patiently til my 'owner' is back in the saddle!

Just to clarify, Jedley, when we edit, we get whatever freshly launched quiz that is next in the queue. If for some reason we cannot immediately approve it for launch, then that quiz remains "ours" until it eventually gets launched. When a quiz is sent back to the author and then resubmitted, it gets bumped to the head of the original editor's (the "owning" editor's) queue of quizzes.

I just wanted to make sure you didn't think we were picking and choosing quizzes to edit. That part is totally random.

Thanks for the further clarification Sploofette, but even with all this additional insight as to the actual mechanics of the editing production line, it still doesnt explain how the quiz in question has been in the SAME PLACE IN THE QUEUE FOR SEVEN DAYS. Meanwhile, three others have been subsequently written, made their way through lines as long as 110, and gone live.
If that one ill-fated quiz is, as Sploofizz suggests, 'owned' by someone who's busy or vacationing or whatever, doesn't the fact that so much time has passed reveal a basic flaw in the system? Shouldn't owned quizzes that are gonna sit and languish for seven days get picked up by other editors, or something along those lines? Just a thought.

I obviously don't know this specific case - it weren't me, honest!
BUT ...
Some quizzes pose problems for an Editor and he/she might put it on hold while discussing whatever matter with other Editors.
Maybe it was something like that?
