Surreyman - I am sorry I had to delete the thread you started about folks lack of knowledge regarding Auschwitz, but posting TQOTD info (and Vlcrowe's response giving away the answer) is not allowed.

The discussion, however, is an important one, and may certainly be continued. Here follows the deleted posts:

On a TQOD just done, I noticed that 40% didn't know [the answer].
Just one (maybe two) generations down the line.
I find that very sad.

Alan..I didn't get that question but I do know [the answer].

If we don't teach our children about the past they are doomed to re-live it. How's that for food for thought?

Doesn't surprise me. Some weirdos are saying the Holocaust never happened. I doubt if a lot of U.S. kids could find their own state on a map. It's sad, I agree.

What is even sadder is seeing kids graduate who can't read above a 1st grade level...We need to get back to teaching the basics and not stuff that they will never use in the real world!

Taught for 27 years for Detroit Public Schools-state law stated no student could reapeat a grade more than once at least back then. The kids I "taught" were mostly from homes where they were being raised by a grandmother-inner city. Not trying to downgrade any ethic group-but doubt one ever heard of Auswitch and were firm believers that Detroit was the Cap. of Mi.-sad then probably still has not changed much- supposedly was assigned as an English teacher but the majority of my time I spent trying to help them fill out a job application and proper behavior during an interview again sad most told me where I could go as they could make more in a day than I made in a year running drugs, prostitution, or as a "pimp"-hopefully reached a couple as expained those were short-lived "professions".Linda

Sploofizz - thanks for reposting. I agree on the importance of the discussion.

Linda - though there are few thanks from that world where you taught, I thank you for hanging in there and doing the best anyone could do under the circumstances.

I agree with Jank....thank you for hanging in there.
It must be pretty soul-destroying to do that year after year.
Hopefully you reached some of the "children", and may even
have saved some lives!!!! Especially the ones filling out job
Am I the only person who sees the irony in that - the lack of hope
in the lives of these Inner City children, may almost be equal to
the "quality of life" in Auswitch????

I'm sorry I gave away the answer but I was under the impression that it was an older TQOTD...I did not realize it was one of today's . Again I'm sorry about giving it away....

TQOTDs come from a huge database of questions and are parceled out completely randomly. A question you get today another player may have gotten last year, and another player will get it next year.

Gosh, Sploofizz, you're giving us all more credit for good memories than we probably deserve!

Ask me if I had breakfast yesterday and I probably won't remember other than the fact that I almost always eat breakfast. Chances are slim that I can remember what I ate though. My point being, if that same question came up tomorrow I probably wouldn't remember this conversation!

I'm a rebel, I'll give a TQOTD answer out, I'll flaunt authority.

Also, I'm speaking out against Aushwitz. I think it was just ridiculous.

Not quite sure of what you mean, Smaug-often am not. Are you saying you don't believe the horrors of Auswitz existed? Perhaps you are simply objecting to the question being asked. Will find you answer if you post one interesting!! You are now and always have been an enigma to me-Linda

Smaug, I believe you mean that you "flout authority". Flaunting authority would mean bragging about your own authority.

Sorry, just one of my pet peeves regarding language.

I'm sure he said exactly what he meant.

Erin - I've heard the red coloring can also be alarming. Strawberry should be avoided. I vote for avocado.

I'm sincerely sorry if you felt my comments were in poor taste, considering the gravity of this thread. In no way was I try to make light of the holocaust or concentration camps. My apologies to those offended.
