SELF CONTAINED OR DEPARTMENTALIZED?

Which do you prefer?

I've been self-contained for many years. Our school is switching to departmentalization. I'm so afraid of losing the bonds I make with my students. I wondered what you guys thought about it?

As a high school teacher I guess I am departmentalized

But I remember when I was in Elementary school we got to split out for reading and math, based on level. That was a godsend to me. I was always in the "high" group and I was soooooo bored when the teacher had to go over and over the same material for the slower learners!

Is that what you mean by departmentalized?

that is one way to departmentalize, but we won't be doing it that way. Instead teaching all subjects, one teacher just teaches maybe two subjects.
