It's Sunday morning and FOX News is reporting on California's "wild fires". Am I correct in saying that fires have been burning for over a year out there ?? I have never heard the words arson or terrorism. I always thought they had wildfires near the fall and the Santa Ana winds, am I correct? I don't believe there are too many Sploofites out there.

Thanks for worrying about California! I am 90 miles south of Sacramento and no, fires have not been burning for a year that I know of! CNN regularly shows a map of what is happening. . . it has been VERY dry all spring so we are having fires earlier than the usual fall. Smoke has come from many directions and down the San Joaquin Valley. Some days the winds are treacherous in the fire areas. Some days there is no wind and we who suffer from the smoke are choking. Our area has advised folks to not go outside on many days and some of my friends are suffering from sinus problems. Those with asthma, etc. are having a bad time.

California feeds the nation and our crops have been seriously involved in all this! Brace yourself for shortages and higher prices. My area is famous for almonds, walnus, peaches, apricots, tomatoes and many farms growing dozens of vegetables. We also have many dairies and I understand the cows dont enjoy heat and smoke either!

Most folks dont realize the size of California. It's around 800 miles north to south, I believe. Check out the San Joaquin Valley... the largest, most fertile in the world. We have nearly every possible weather condition from dessert to the mountains to the sea. It is an incredibly beautiful state with many, many parks.

I did a quiz that is still alive on learning about California. It doesnt address the fires but you may enjoy taking it!

Seniorita, too bad, wanted to take the quiz. I lived in the bay area from 81-89, barely missing the Loma Prieta quake. Other than the quakes, I miss Ca badly, especially the food! Wishing for rain for you guys! Sandy

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and fire and earthquakes are a way of life. Some fires are worse than others but all cause a terrific amount of loss. California is a beautiful state but the cities are so crowded. I still have family and friends that live there and I visit often but I could never go back to city life after living in the country. I don't miss the earthquakes either.

Here in England we are having the usual Summer weather - sunny days interspersed with rainy days (too many). I was at an outdoor concert last night and got wet and cold. Last Summer was horribly wet. So feel free to take some of our rainy weather and we'll be very happy to take some hot, sunny weather in return. We also see reports about the fires in California on TV here.

Actually, Rita, your quiz is still live. A quiz may drop off the page of current quizzes, but it is still listed under the author's profile, which is how I reached and took your quiz on California. I don't know of any reason that a quiz would no longer be active unless it was objectionable.
