Once again, the link for the correct answer doesn't work. It's about time that someone figured out that there is a problem with any "correct" answer that has an apostrophe in it. The correct link is . I find it very frustrating when I have missed a puzzle and cannot even get to see the information about the correct answer. This time, I was able to find it -- sometimes I am not. I have put in several "bug" reports about various mistaken links. But it keeps happening.

Only Justin sees the bug reports. I would think that an issue like this would not be as high up on his priority list as some others.

However, the Editors see Support Tickets. The WTHAIs are administered by a small group of editors, and they probably do not realize that the links are not working. I will direct them to this thread. But, in the future, if there is an issue with a WTHAI, please send a support ticket. It will get seen by the right people.

Will do.

By the way, the puzzle has been sitting on the correct answer for over five hours! Wouldn't you say that's a bit excessive?

I do not personally know how the WTHs are arranged - we have a lot of division of labor here - but, as I said, I will make those admins aware of this thread.

It sounds like the job descriptions need to be broadened here!

Here's a very brief rundown of some of our jobs -

We can all edit quizzes, kerblunks, Trivia Squares, write TQOTDs, deal with Support Tickets

In addition, some of us edit Word Puzzles, some of us set up Tournaments, some of us set up the WTHAIs

When I enter a new WTHAI puzzle I copy and paste the URL directly from the wikipedia page. I am not sure how the other WTHAI Administrators do this, but I can't imagine it would be any different. I don't see how it can get so messed up unless we accidentally erase a character or type something else into the box at the end of the address.

I think maybe I did that with the Man Ray puzzle. After entering the wiki link I forgot to move to the answer box and typed in his name so the wiki address had it twice. I must have gotten distracted as I never noticed this.

We certainly don't intend for this to happen. The only other explanation I can offer is that there is something about the way Justin set up the answers to not accept punctuation that is also affecting the links. But if that were the case it seems like there should be a much higher percentage of problems!

When checking this Buffalo Bill Casino link from the editors' side (some of the editors can see the last 10 puzzles, who guessed it, after how many tiles, all the answer choices, and we can access the link, but we cannot see the list of guesses, FYI) I was taken to a wiki page about the man himself:
The link you all can access here added a / to the end of that URL which took me essentially nowhere. I have no idea why that would happen.

I can only say that we will try to be more diligent about double checking these in the future.

As for how long the guessed picture stays, or how long you have to stare at "the Riddler's underpants", that is completely random, generated by the computer according to some parameters Justin set up. And I don't want to speak for Justin but I am pretty sure this operates EXACTLY how he wants it to. The whole point is to get folks to come back to Sploofus again and again and again to check on the progress! I am pretty sure that there are several algorithms dealing with how many hits a page gets that google uses before they pay for advertising, or how high they put a priority on any given site for their own search engines, etc.

So what would you rather have? Higher prices for gold and platinum? Lots more advertising? or a couple hours wait time between puzzles?

Besides which, the the editors are kept hopping right now keeping the WTHAI queue filled while you guys are guessing 2-4 puzzles each day in each category. If they changed over sooner we would be seeing 6-8 wins a day and most of us would completely miss seeing half of them, as well as doubling the editors workload.

I hope this clears up a few of your concerns.

I feel much less frustrated when an issue actually gets addressed. It's the not getting answers that is maddening. Thanks for taking the time to reply Sploofinder and Sploofizz.

Thanks for the info editors. And if that is what Justin has in mind, it certainly works. I like to check at least hourly while awake. (Not that I will ever get one)

I often forget they exist.
