The editors are trying to compile a bit of information on which categories you folks have opted-out of (back when you could opt-out).

Hopefully the opt-out option will be reinstated soon, but in the to share?

I, too, opted out of Sports.

And it seems like every-other-time I stage a Showdown, I get a *#%!! Sports question. Rats!

I opted out of Geography for awhile but before everything changed I put it back and now I get questions from all categories...

Sports. I'm no good at sports, the history, statistics, rules, all that stuff. I enjoy watching sports sometimes, used to love a beer and a dog at a Cubs game, but not really a fan, and not an athlete.

So I just checked my badges on my info page and I actually have a lower percentage in the music category. I love music! I was a bigass Deadhead, a Parrothead, I like some opera even. Listen all the time, even play piano a little. Thought I was pretty good in that area. This is just crazy. Nothing makes sense any more. I don't know what I'll do now. I feel the ground shifting beneath my feet.

I opted out of the Sports category. I like to watch the Olympic games, but the only sport questions I could possibly answer correctly would pertain to hockey.

After getting my first 5 wrong in a row I opted out of Physical Science. Although I have seen questions that could classify as such in Showdown and Potpourri. I only wager on Sports.

What Sploofizz didn't mention is that if we can collect this information, we may be able to handle opt-outs through the Support Ticket system, even if it is a while before the opt-out control is restored. So keep those other category names coming, and help out your fellow Sploofuser!

You can (or used to be able to) opt out of any of the TQOTD categories. They are: Books & Authors, Geography, Movies & TV, Music & Musicians, Physical Science, Sports, Trivia Potpourri, Vocabulary, and World Events.

I hope that helps!

Your opt-out is still valid if you did it in 1.0. However, there is currently no way to change that category or to opt-out of one now if you never did before.

You mean that isn't in effect anymore???? I originally opted out of sports, then changed it to TV and movies (because I never watch TV).

Books and Authors --------

If you opted-out of a category BEFORE the change to 2.0, then you ARE still opted-out of that category. But right now no one else can opt-out of anything new from their profile page. There is a bug report already requesting that this feature be reinstated.

But since we had some support tickets asking how to do it, we thought we would try to help folks opt-out. We can manually add the opt-out choice for you, but first we had to figure out the correct codes. So by knowing who opted-out of what already, we have identified the code numbers used for each category, except for Potpourri and Vocabulary. I am guessing that no one opted-out of those!

And FYI - Only 1 category is allowed to be opted-out at a time. The only way to "opt-out of TQOTD" altogether is to simply not answer them!

Sports, but you can get weird questions in any category. Had 3, count 'em 3, vocabs wrong in a row, 1 of which I bet the max on Redeemed myself tonight, but it just shows to go ya

Sports for me too. I'm an Australian and find it difficult to answer questions about players I don't know from a sport I've never seen. Mind you, that applies to Australian sport as well!

While we're on the topic I've always wondered why there is no "arts" section.

I didn't realize we couldn't change them I thought I just couldn't find where it is.

I also can't find the page that tells me how many wager tokens I have so I just give it a go and see if it lets me. Is that available or has that disappeared as well?

Music and Musicians was my choice.

I've done fine in sports, to my shock, because the questions are on horse racing, for instance that nearly everyone knew. I can never remember though who kicked who on the figure skating rink.

I like the sports category, unless it gets weirdly detailed. Weirdly that is for those of us who don't know that Jason stole 32 times in 1964. And...not to upset anyone but sports is such an important part of every culture, I think The World Online Genius Club...that's us...can stay on top of basics. Which really, I just realized, has nothing to do with your question. I'm defending the sports category it seems. I think I should know suma wrestling versus Judo and what color the famous cyclist winner shirt is, and Micheal Phelps and the fact George Bush was a cheerleader and I donno...Ringling Circus and does Amelia Earhart fit in here? So I keep braving the sports category.

The short answer: I didn't opt out of anything. If it were to be demanded, I'd have to go with music and musicians. Too bad. Nice category. But like others, I THOUGHT I knew something about it, and yet, seems I don't.

I also opted outta Sports.

1/ I'm no good at it....I know nuthin' about sports.
2/ Most questions would be about American sports..I know even LESS'n nuthin' there!

I often seem to get a danged Sports question in a Showdown!! I wish my opt-out worked THERE too.

The "secret" here is that editors cannot do this. If you opted out of anything in 1.0 it carried over so you are safe. If you joined or rejoined after 2,0 was in place you are "screwed" unless Justin is indeed back and ready to fix this-optimistically "Music and Musicians"- gotten 3 in the past few days-for me-Linda

I initially opted out of sports, but since I rarely watch television (maybe 2 or 3 times a year) I changed my opt-out to movies and tv.
