|The 5th album by Led Zeppelin was released on March 28, 1973. It is their first to contain all original material. The band, always interested in the process of recording and engineering albums, used layering techniques and played with other aspects of its production.|
While this album originally did not receive much acclaim, it is now considered an important step in the band's growth.
Interesting note: like IV, neither the band's name nor album name actually appear on the cover. It was sold with brown wrappers containing the names, though the purpose of the wrapper was actually to cover the buttocks of the children in the picture. It wasn't enough for some places in the US, where the album was banned for many years.
