Inspiring Lyrics--"Blessed Assurance"

puppyfootPuppyfoot on 08/25/2008

trivia quiz "Blessed Assurance" was written by two women. In 1873, Mrs. Phoebe Knapp wrote the music, then played it for her friend, Miss Fanny J. Crosby. She asked her what the tune said to Miss Crosby, who answered with what became the first line of the hymn--"Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine." Miss Crosby, who was blind, then wrote the rest of the lyrics, and their song became a popular Christian hymn. Both women wrote many other songs.

This Kerblunk includes questions from three verses of this hymn.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE: I realize that many hymns have different versions of lyrics because they have been revised over the years. If you feel that any of the "wrong" answers on this quiz are actually right and can send me information verifying this, I will gladly consider changing the answers. Thanks for your help.

another golden gem ---one thing that never ceases to amaze me about this prolific, blind hymnwriter is
all the references to sight in her texts. Another hymnwriter (Frances Havergal) wrote about Fannie
"Sweet blind sing over the sea, Tuneful and jubilant! How can it be,
That the songs of gladness, which float so far, As if they fell from the evening star
Are the notes of one who may never see 'visible music' of flower and tree
Oh, her heart can see, her hears can see! And its sight is strong nd swift and free"I missed # 3
because my cat jumped on my keyboard and I submitted my answers before realizing too late I had
not answered that one. Hmmm --- I wonder if I could use that excuse for an ill prepared sermon this
Sunday???!! thanks for these inspiring quizzes ---it helps me to realize all these political games
and wars and all do not amount to much when we realize the Blessed Assurance of Christ!
