At the end of 2006, Atlantic Monthly magazine polled 10 important historians as to who they thought were the most influential figures in American history. The result was a Top 100 list of those figures, and of course a list sure to instigate a great deal of debate amongst readers. Was Ronald Reagan really more influential than Thomas Paine? Rachel Carson more than Frederick Douglass? Bill Gates more than John Quincy Adams? Elvis Presley more than Ralph Nader? Babe Ruth more than Frank Lloyd Wright? Louis Armstrong more than Ernest Hemingway? Maybe yes, maybe no. It's all subjective of course, and history does have a way of rewriting itself. In any event here are the historical figures that placed 50th to 41st. May the debates begin! Please rate the quiz afterward in terms of its historical influence. Hmmm, on second thought...make that in terms of its trivia value! Best wishes, Bill
