This is a quiz about the history of political public opinion polling in the United States. Political polling has become a ubiquitous presence in the American political culture, and the source of much contoversy. Although political polls have become much better over time, they are still sometimes spectacularly wrong. Moreover, the scholarly research suggests that the political polls, themselves, have at least some influence on the outcome of elections, sometimes causing or contributing to a "bandwagon" effect, influencing some people to vote for the perceived poll favorite and some people to refrain from voting because the polls show their prefered candidate is either going to win or going to lose in any event. The gentleman whose photo introduces this quiz is an important figure in the history of American public opinion research and political polling. He is also the correct answer to the fifth question to this quiz.
