A Poet's Dog

This should be easier than my previous poetry quizzes. I will give you biographical information about a writer, several lines from a poem, and then the poem's title. You name the writer.

Each poem takes as its subject a dog. Actually, many address the death of a dog. This was unintentional. In any case, take your time, enjoy the poems, and have fun!

Just found this quiz (a Poet's Dog) and loved it. There have been two great dog poems in the New Yorker in recent years: "The House-Dog's Lament" and one whose title escapes me. I'll send them on if I can find them.

Excellent! Certainly, I am an idiot for snapping off "Descartes" instead of "Pascal," but A. A. Milne is "best remembered as a playwright"? Not by most people. Anyway, well done. In this sea of witless and boring quizzes, "A Poet's Dog" stands out.
