Historical background: During the Middle Ages, the Orthodox Church assimilated the Slavic peoples and the Scandinavian ancestors of the Vikings. In the 13th century, the Mongols conquered and ruled Russia for two centuries. Authoritarian rule by the Khans left a legacy of ruthless leadership within that country. Eventually, Russian princes overthrew the Khans, and consolidated their power. However, the Russian nobles and the free peasants made it difficult for the princes to rule. The following quiz asks questions relating to the consolidation of authoritarian rule within the Russian state. Good luck! Sources: My notes and Wikipedia for assistance with Russian terms
