Mary Shelley’s 1818 Gothic novel “Frankenstein; or, the Modern Prometheus,” could be called a story about the hubris of humankind. In the twentieth century it became the basis for numerous popular film treatments which usually boiled down to a good old monster movie. As most people know, Frankenstein was the name of the doctor who attempted to create life. His creation was never given an actual name, just referred to as "Frankenstein’s monster,” “the monster” or “the creature.” Of course over time the surname has often been confused with the monster himself.
