Kool-Aid got its start in the Midwest. The forerunner to Kool-Aid was called Fruit Smack. Because of the cost of shipping the bottled syrup and the problems with breakage, the inventor set about developing a method to remove the liquid from the syrup. And Kool-Aid was born.
