It simply must be heartbreaking...to play in a sport you have loved since childhood, attain a level of glory that every kid dreams about but only a fraction experience, and then have your career come to an end decades before you even reach social security age.

It is the most unenviable thing about professional athletes, those entertainers who are maligned by many people as being overly adored and over-paid. But I really don't think many people would trade their own lives for one in which that joy is snatched away from you way before being psychologically ready, and then to have to spend the rest of your life with the physical ailments and pains that they live with.

Well, whatever way you feel about them, here is a list of professional athletes, some of them legends, who missed the game so much after retiring, that they came back, saying "Hey Coach! Put me in! I want to play some more!"
