Billkozy's "Sploofus' Favorite Music Artists" Poll

billkozyBillkozy on 03/10/2008

BillkozysSploofusFavoriteMusicArtistsPoll Photo Firstly, I thank all of you who participated and make this a lot of fun. Thank you! Out of all the surveys I've conducted in this Community Quiz category, this one had the biggest response so far: 185 Sploofus players voted for 410 different Music Artists ranging from AC/DC to ZZ Top, Beethoven to Frank Sinatra to Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass to Benny Goodman to Patsy Cline to Nirvana to etc. etc. etc.

Here's an oddity though: Although Bing Crosby made more studio recordings than any other singer in history (396 compared to Paul Whiteman's 220, Frank Sinatra's 209, Elvis Presley's 149, Glenn Miller's 129, Nat “King” Cole's 118, Louis Armstrong's 85, and the Beatles' 68) and although Crosby scored the most number one hits ever, 38, (Beatles-24 and Presley-18), and although Crosby made the most popular record ever, “White Christmas,” the only single to make the American pop charts 20 times...he received not one single solitary vote.

Well, the voting was tight. With the exception of the first place finisher, there is very little separating the rest of the pack from the musical artist before and after them. One or two more votes for any of them would boost them another notch or few. With that, I'll reveal here the top finishers, in order, from #60 down to #11:
Janis Joplin, Allman Brothers, Glenn Miller, Jack Johnson,
John Lennon, Rush, James Taylor, Alice in Chains, Andrea Bocelli, Electric Light Orchestra, Foo Fighters, Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, Jimmy Buffet, John Coltrane
John Denver, Madonna, Michael Buble, Nine Inch Nails,
Bryan Adams, The Who, Meatloaf, Emerson Lake and Palmer,
Green Day, Paul Simon, Heart, Carpenters, Metallica, Ella Fitzgerald, Tom Petty, R.E.M., Doors, AC/DC, Aerosmith, David Bowie, Four Seasons, Grateful Dead, Garth Brooks, U2,
Simon and Garfunkel, Van Halen, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac,
Neil Young, Def Leppard, Bob Dylan, Chicago, Billy Joel,
Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, and just missing out in cracking the top 10...Queen.

Thanks again, and without further ado, here comes the top 10.
Peace,
Bill
