Can you take a (James Thurber) joke?

|By now it should be obvious that many sploofus solvers are comedians. If like Garrybl they are fans of James Thurber, this quiz should be easy for them; if not, but they think they would make a good joke-writer, then it will be equally much a piece of cake.|
What I am going to give you is the setting for a joke originated by James Thurber; all you have to do is supply the caption for the cartoon or the last line for the story. I’ll do my best to describe the events leading up to it – you deliver the knock-em-dead finale.
By the way, not included in this list is the attached cartoon – one of my favorites. The caption is “It’s a naïve domestic Burgundy without any breeding but I think you’ll be amused by its presumption.”
