|Recently Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich was charged with trying to sell President-elect Barack Obama's empty Senate seat. Democratic leaders have called upon the Illinois legislature to schedule a special election as soon as possible rather than to leave the vacant seat in Blagojevich's hands. Senator Richard Durbin of Illinois said, "No appointment by this governor, under these circumstances, could produce a credible replacement" as he suggested the state House and Senate not only establish a special election but do so by a margin that a Blagojevich veto could not overturn. |
