The Purple Heart is the oldest award that is still given to members of the U.S. military. The original award was called the "Badge of Military Merit" and was established by George Washington.

The order that went with the award read "Let it be known that he who wears the military order of the purple heart has given of his blood in the defense of his homeland and shall forever be revered by his fellow countrymen."

All of the well-known people in this quiz have been awarded a Purple Heart after being wounded while serving with the U.S. military.
