Cigarette Advertising on US Television

CigaretteAdvertisingonUSTelevision Photo This may well turn out much like my quiz on Amos and Andy-people too young to remember it at all. I am going to try it anyway. Today there has been enough proof that cigarette/or any smoking may damage a person's health. In my teens people could smoke just about anywhere including movie theater balconies and doctor's waiting rooms. Now, depending on the state in which you live, it is sometimes impossible to find any place other than your own home to smoke. These days folks who continue to smoke-myself included-generally apologize for the fact that they do and swear they intend to quit soon. The other reaction is smokers at times become aggressively defensive about it being their "right". This quiz is about "yesterday" not "today".In the early days of TV through the early 60's, most shows had a single sponsor. Cigarette companies had the bucks thus they were among the primary sponsors. They not only showed commercials but expected the characters in the show to use their product as well as stars to endorse them. Do hope you find it interesting and fun. My main source was the site Cigarette Commercials:TV Party.

Regarding #5 John Wayne did not die of lung cancer. He had lung cancer in 1964 but was pronounced cancer free 5 years later after having a lung removed. He died 15 years later from stomach cancer.
