Justice Clarence Thomas grew up speaking Gullah/Geechee, a southern African-American Creole blend of African languages and Elizabethan-English. Certainly that type of language barrier in contrast to speaking American English might cause an educated person no shyness. However, his unwillingness to speak as he has said reminds him of his humble beginnings speaking Gullah / Geechee in Pin Point, Georgia”, the country (rural) area outside Savannah, Georgia. He was the only African American in his class. The class poked fun at him whenever he spoke in school. Seldom does he speak in court. In actual fact, Justice Thomas didn’t speak at all during 2007.
