Cliff Clavin Style Odd Sports Team Names
![]() |
There are some sports teams that have team names that do not match the city that they play in. Often this happens because sports teams move, and the nickname does not match the new city. On Cheers, Cliff Clavin would often state supposed facts that sounded impressive, but were not true. If Cliff Clavin gave a Sploofus quiz about these misnamed sport teams it might look something like: Question - In the 1924 Olympics, a rowing team from Ohio State University won the gold medal for the United States in the men's eights, despite having five oarsmen who were battling the plague. To honor these men, the soccer team in Ohio State's city is named what? Answer - The Columbus Crew. The questions that follow will be similar to this example.
