Despite the mediocre reception received by my Jule Styne quiz, I have decided to continue my "Broadway Legends" series with this quiz about Cole Porter's life, Broadway shows, and general career. Porter is especially known for his witty lyrics, although many of his songs have become jazz standards in instrumental versions. While he most decidedly deserves honor as a "Broadway Legend", in Porter's case, the individual songs are often better than the whole of the musical. With a few exceptions, Porter's best songs are much more widely known than the musicals they come from. Cole Porter will be remembered as long as American Musical Theatre or popular song exist. The image for this quiz is a billboard from the original production of "Anything Goes" -- one of Porter's finest musicals. Sources: Suskin, "Show Tunes", 3d. ed. (Oxford University Press, 2000), Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopedia, the Cole Porter biography at www.coleporter.org/bio, and "Fyne Times Gay and Lesbian Magazine, UK" article on Cole Porter at www.fyne.co.uk/index.php?item=409.

I like your quizzes, but when you give the answer in the next question (and if the taker got it wrong), it kinda makes you want to quit. Otherwise, interesting and fun!
