I remember growing up in the late 40's - early 50's. We would spend all day playing outside with our friends. Mother never worried. She always knew where we were and that we would be home before dark. Supper was always eaten at the kitchen or dining room table and everyone was there. On Sundays, my married sister and brother were there with their families. Mother always got out the good dishes and on Sunday, we got dessert. There was always fried chicken and my brother-in-law always managed to pass the mashed potatoes so that he could stick my thumb in them. There were lots of vegetables from my Mother's very large garden. In summer they were fresh, other seasons from the shelves in the cellar where she stored the ones she had canned. My sister and I got a weekly allowance of $1.00, half of which went into a Christmas Club savings account. The rest we could spend but with the understanding that when it was gone there would be no more until next Friday. We certainly learned to stretch the money. Do you remember? Thanks to wikipedia.org
