Welcome to the July Community Quizzes -- a game for quiz takers and makers. (Image: An artist's depiction of Atlantis based on Plato's description) Whether Atlantis is a myth or was a real island continent has been a hotly debated topic among philosophers, geographers and historians since ancient times. Though many proposed locations share many similarities to the Atlantis story, none has been proven conclusively to be a true historical Atlantis. Most of the proposed sites are situated in or near the Mediterranean Sea as the islands of Crete, Cyprus and Sardinia but others are as distant as Indonesia, Antarctica and Carribean.
