Whether you knew it or not, many people's names have become part of the English language. One of the more well-known examples is the word 'boycott.' Captain Charles Cunningham Boycott was the manager for some land in Ireland. Tenants' rents were high and they wanted a reduction. Boycott said no. To force the issue, most people did not work, and local businesses would not serve or deal with Boycott. Thus, a refusal to work or use a business became called a boycott.
