The European world after the First World War signified a new age. Exhausted by the conflict, some people wished to forget their problems by watching Charlie Chaplin light up the screen. For others, the post-WWI era symbolized political dislocation, the never-ending search for employment, and bitterness. Governments in many instances could not adjust to a new way of thinking. In addition, the Europeans now realized that a new world symbolized by the growing might of the United States and Japan was here. The threat of international communism created by the Russian Revolution brought more danger into the global community. Some European countries would be unable to cope with the traumatic changes brought by WWI. Eventually, we would all have to pay the piper.
