|Title IX has helped usher in a wave of girls and women into the world of high school and collegiate sports. The legislation was authored by Senator Birch Bayh and Congresswoman Edith Green. One of its biggest supporters was Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink because of rejections she endured as a woman applying to graduate school. In 1972, one in 27 girls played sports, but today 1 out of 2.5 women play sports! 80% of women that were identified as key leaders of Fortune 500 companies participated in sports in their childhood. The following quiz identifies several famous women in entertainment, politics and elsewhere that were successful athletes in their pre-celebrity years.
