Fantastic 4: The World's Greatest Comic Magazine

Hey, I didn't come up with that nickname for the FF's book--blame writer/editor Stan Lee and penciller Jack Kirby, the team's titanic creators! If it seems a little boastful, well, you probably never saw the Lee/Kirby FF run. Even the snooty "Comics Journal" acknowledged their issues of the book as Marvel's best work ever. The breathtaking and imaginative adventures that they conceived for Reed "Mister Fantastic" Richards, Susan Storm "Invisible Woman" Richards, Ben "The Thing" Grimm and Johnny "The Human Torch" Storm revolutionized and re-energized comics in the 1960's every bit as much as "Watchmen" and "The Dark Knight Returns" galvanized the medium in the 80's.
Granted, the team has been around for 45 years now, and not every era in its history neccessarily lives up to the astonishing precedent that Stan and Jack set. But there have been, and continue to be, some really outstanding Fantastic Four stories!
I'll try to pay due homage to the entire storied past of this beloved and influential quartet, both as a group and as four colorful and complex individuals, from the beginning right up to the issues currently on the shelves!
