Garry's Big Canada Quiz

gis64Gis64 on 11/24/2009

GarrysBigCanadaQuiz Photo Yes, I love Canada! I am from Scotland, of course, but I have visited the great country twice. It is a country which is similar to Scotland in many ways. The big difference is that there is much more of it, and my quiz will examine your knowledge of this fascinating, vast country.

There's something seriously wrong here if I, as a Canadian, can only score 40%. Trivia, not minutiae, please. And get them right!! The population. of TO is only about 3 million now -- not the GTA, which is a nebulous surrounding region, but the city itself. If I'd concentrated more and guessed better, I could probably have got up to 60% on this...

Scotsman who lived in the beautiful city of Montréal for just over 6 years. Hoping to go back for a visit next year. Brought back many happy memories - not of the snowfalls though!

Thanks for the wonderful quiz. I am from Canada but Grandma was from Oban. I hope to get to Scotland in 2012.

great quiz, even if you did have to mention Johnny Mac.
I'm Metis and MacDonald used our nation in Manitoba to validate his ambitions in the arena of 19th century foreign relations. (In 19th century terms a nation/state was only considered to be legitimate if it could project military force outside its borders. He couldn't take on the US so the Manitoba Metis fit the bill exactly.
A couple facts about our Sir John A:
He was not the father of Canada, he was one of the Fathers of Confederation representing Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick who put together a confederation of four regions organised as provinces within a royal dominion. There is a real cult of personality growing around the drunken little megalomaniac, next time you're this side of the pond check out Regina. You'll see the fascist side of the cult.
One of the reasons Sir John A had it in for for Louis Riel and the Metis was the fact that Riel was an active member of the Conservative Party (which Sir John A led) and was probably the only person in the country who take the leadership of the Tories away from . If MacDonald had not let his place in history get in the way of true statesmanship, Riel would have brought Quebec into the Conservative party. Instead MacDonald went on a vendetta aganst him which has divided our country ever since.
Anyhow great quiz, I usally score 100% on a quiz about Canuckistan. Thanks for putting it together
