"Get Together": The Song Remains the Same
![]() |
In the salad days of my youth, "Get Together" by The Youngbloods was a much beloved song among my circle of friends (or at least when the song was re-released in 1969). We were all protesting against the Vietnam War and advocating peace and love, and this song exhorting people to "smile on your brother / everybody get together / try to love one another right now" fit the ethos of the times. The song was actually published as "Let's Get Together", but it has been recorded more often under the name "Get Together". In this quiz, with the exception of two questions, you are asked to identify who recorded a particular version of "Get Together" from the information provided in each question. As always in "The Song Remains the Same" series, I own a recording of any version of a song that figures as a correct answer in this quiz. Most of the correct answers are folk-rock, psychedelic and electric folk performers from the 1960s and 1970s. The image for this quiz is this cover of The Youngbloods' 1971 album, "Ride the Wind", which was an album of live recordings, including a longer, jazzier version of "Get Together". Sources: Listening to different versions of this song that I own, and information from the liner notes provided with some of the recordings, supplemented by Wikipedia, the on-line encyclopedia.
