Great Robberies in Academy Awards for Best Picture
![]() |
In the wake of the great support for the Best Actor Robberies quiz, here is a quiz based on Best Picture robberies. There have been some EGREGIOUSLY bad choices for Best Picture, as you will see (and hopefully agree). This quiz also leverages the American Film Institute (AFI) Top 100 Films of All Time list - the updated list from June of 2007, NOT the original list from 1998. Nominees and winners will have their 2007 ranking listed in each question - that will explain the number in parentheses. The rankings will help me make my case. I also reviewed the original 400-film ballot for selecting the AFI Top 100 list, and there will be some interesting notes based on the review of the ballot. Best of luck!

We are not in complete sync in this category...but close! (I LOVE "Shakespeare in Love"! A *better* film than "Saving Private Ryan"? By most accounts, no. For my money, "SPR" had the most extraordinary opening sequence, then quickly devolved into a paint-by-numbers, predictably manipulative, just-another-war movie), but I do have to dissuade you of the notion that it was the *academy* that had anything to do with placing Timothy Hutton in the supporting category so he could win the award. That decision is strictly up to the producers of the film; they are the ones who knew Hutton didn't stand a chance against De Niro.

It must be nice to be such as expert on the movies. What exactly is you role in the movie industry? Oh, what's that? Nothing!!!
I found it enjoyable but I got 2 wrong because those were my choices. Found quiz to be subjective and of course not correct merely what you think albeit AFI agreed on some occasions. Since we can't vote for best movie of year it is a moot point.
