|On April 23, 2009, President Barack Obama and an economic adviser named Lawrence Summers held a meeting with credit card company executives on the subject of how to get a handle on this country’s problem with credit cards and how unfair practices have gotten people into financial trouble. Analysts predicted that credit card defaults in 2009 would total over $75 billion. Today’s credit card contracts and the terms that seem to shift at the slightest whim of the companies along with the complex legal jargon have landed many consumers into debts they might never be able to extricate themselves from. |
