The Industrial Revolution is characterized as an age which saw machines replace human labor. Not since the Neolithic Age has there been such a dramatic shift in living conditions. European society changed from being primarily an agrarian society to a modern industrial society. The roots of it harken back to the much earlier Commercial Revolution, Scientific Revolution, and the development and rise of capitalism.
