J R R Tolkien - Man or Hobbit?!

Well, of course he was a man, really - hobbits don't exist, do they? Or do they …! Well, certainly they did in the phenomenal mind of this scholarly writer, whose books about 'Middle Earth', and the various races of people and beings that inhabit it (complete with their own languages), have become twentieth century classics. How much do you know or remember about the life and professions of this (literary) giant of a writer? (We'll get on to his writing in a later quiz.) Questions are not short (do not take this quiz if you dislike long questions!) with information from his book jackets, the Tolkien Society, and Wikipedia.
