Welcome to the August Community Quizzes -- a game for quiz takers and makers. A few years ago, I threw together a web page listing ten books I'd put on my desert island list -- favorite reads, if you will. I'm not sure if any of them have gotten nudged off the list -- I haven't been much on keeping up the listing lately, but it should be close enough for government work. I'll introduce the books, one per question, arranged alphabetically by author, and try to find a question for each one that will interest and challenge even a person who had never heard of the book.
