Louie, Louie -- Who Did It?

|Richard Berry, an R&B singer from L.A., wrote "Louie Louie" in 1957. In 1963, the Kingsmen from Tacoma, Washington, recorded this great rock and roll anthem. An immediate hit, the song then took on a life of its own and has been covered by all sorts of artists. |
As soon as it was released, the FBI began investigating the song's lyrics. They must mean something--and they must mean something bad, according to the Bureau. Well, 40 years later, nobody has ever figured out what the singer was trying to say--and no one's even sure the singer knew. Now lots of others have sung the same unknown words.
Today the song is the unofficial state song of Washington State and one of the most recognized tunes in the world. Here are questions about just ten of the singers and groups that covered the song.
