I recently purchased a CD that contains a recording of "Louie Louie" (no comma between the Louies). With that CD, I concluded that I owned enough versions of "Louie Louie" by well known and relatively well known musical artists to use "Louie Louie" as the subject of an installment in "The Song Remains the Same" series. My rule for the series is that I must own a copy of any recording of our song that is used as a correct answer. With one exception, all recordings of "Louie Louie" that are used as correct answers in this quiz are stylistically in the broad category of rock. "Louie Louie" became a 1960s garage rock classic, and any garage band worth its salt in those days included "Louie Louie" in its repertoire. There is some interesting social and cultural history associated with the song that is discussed in some of the questions in this quiz. Indeed, the gentleman pictured in the photo selected for this quiz, Governor Matthew Welsh, features prominently in this history as will be discovered in question 3, if not already known.
